Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
I'm guessing the K20 has a front clip swap on it.
It will fit. You will need the bellhousing mounts for the standard tranny. Gary

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
Yes the K20 (4x4) truck has all kinds off parts that should not be on a 1967! The following is wrong for that year hood, grill, tilt steering, disc brakes, power brakes, gas tank where the spare should be and I'm sure there's more I'm just so new to these years of trucks so bare with me. So I will need the bell housing mounts for the standard tranny, not sure how that differs from the TH350 that's currently installed. Will I need a different drive shaft then what's on the 1970 C20 (2wd)?
BTW I'm having a great time with my new to me truck and this group sure makes it much easier, thanks

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
I think I could have stated this question better. Can I use the existing bell housing and trans from the K20 (4x4) in the C20 (2wd)? If so can I use the exist drive shaft in the C20?

BTW, Gasoline71, you are right he would need the bell housing, mounts and the crossmember, I was confused thinking you said he needed the bell housing for the 4WD, my apologies. The trans I assume is attached to the transfer case, and the rear driveshaft comes out of that. I expect it could be done but you might have to do something to the tail end of the trans. |

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
There's a 69 C10 six lug with a manual transmission for sell for $500 out here. Could I pull the parts off that and use it?

You might have to change the "hump" in the cab of the C20 (not sure if you have high hump or low hump you need high hump). You will have to remove the forged rivets holding in the cross-member that holds the mounts that hold the bell housing and bolt it into the C20. You may have to move the engine back, but your parts truck should have all the right parts as long as it's a V8. You will have to transfer all the clutch linkage to the C20. The headers may or may not work with a manual, I'm thinking probably not but not sure. The steering column is different, don't think this is a deal breaker. I'm sure there is more than I can think of right now. A parts truck for this endeavor is the way to go. Plus, you get spare other stuff. |

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
Low hump :/ I'm going to try your suggestions first. The transmission never gave me any trouble so if I can fix it and/or reduce the drainage I will leave it in and work on other things. I agree having spare parts is awesome! In WWII they did that with aircrafts and called them hanger queens.

You got aheckuva deal on those two trucks, I say fix up primo the one you want to keep and sell the other one. (I'd get the 4WD running and sell that). But, you might be an off-road guy. |

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
The 4x4 trans will likely need mods to be work in the 2 wheel truck assuming someone didn't rig up a divorced setup in the k/20. If it's an sm465 4 speed the tail shafts are different between the 2 wheel and 4 wheel transmissions.

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
Yes the $500 parts truck has a 350 in it but the seller said the fuel pump quit and he's not putting anymore money in it. I'm keep the C20 and two people want the K20 which was a 67 C10. One doesn't have the time and money and the other has the same truck and needs a better Cab so I hope to sell it to him at family price to him... Just a real good guy. I'm a firm believer that what goes around comes around. Thanks for all the great info mechanicalman!

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
He wants the disk brakes as well... you have a good point the Cab could be better in the parts truck.

Re: Automatic swap to a manual?
I might be interested in the 4x4 frame and running gear if you decide to deal but that is a subject for another thread
