Gauging Interest on 1967 GMC Super Custom Door Panels

I am planning on having SMS heat press some interior door panels for my build and wanted to see if anyone else might be interested in getting some also. To my knowledge no one reproduces the GMC since they're different that the Chevy CST. I talked to SMS and they were thinking around $400 a pair to press them in whatever color you'd like but we might be able to get them cheaper if there's a large group order. Let me know if anyone is interested and for how many sets. Thanks!

Re: Gauging Interest on 1967 GMC Super Custom Door Panels

I don't think $400 is too much to have original looking door panels custom made. I would get some, but my '67 is going in a mild custom direction. $400 might be too much for many, though. It seems with the internet there are many who feel restoration is something to bargain hunt, when just having what you need for any cost is how it always was

Is $400 just for a sheet of heat pressed material?
Or a set of ready to install door panels?

Did that involve heat pressing or was it using off the shelf vinyl?

Re: Gauging Interest on 1967 GMC Super Custom Door Panels

SMS is less than a mile from my house and I have bought all my seat material from them and seen their work on their door panels, usually the panels are on backer board and finished by them but the wait is long, I would expect 4-6 months due to back orders as they do so much custom work. I would be happy to ask about a group order I know the owner pretty well.

I figured that it would be a few months before they could get to it. I would really appreciate if you could talk to the owner for me although it sounds like there might not be enough interest to do a very big group order. Any help would be great though.

But you didn't get custom made to match factory one year only lower production door panels, right? Got pictures? A shop can only buy factory repro for so cheap. My stitch is nowhere that cheap for custom or out of the box. Let's compare apples to apples if we post here. I would buy some, but don't take it as a commitment. I don't need any now but would want to have some for future projects in case they ended up only a short run

I would be interested in the door panels and the correct style seat covers for my 67. Here is a pic of the interior.

Thanks for the picture. Hopefully we can work something out as a group. If I remember correctly SMS can't make the actual seat covers but I did have then heat press some fawn colored vinyl for my local upholstery shop to make the covers for me. I don't remember right off hand how much they charged for the material but could go back and look through my records.

It's all good and I would be done, but he didn't ask for opinions. He is asking for interest. He also said "around 400" and that was just one set. Think prototype. Same as custom machining, printing business cards, t-shirts,etc. The first one gets charged the set-up fee.

Anyway, sorry for the distraction. If you want to count me in you can, just to see where this can go buying in a group. Who knows, with plenty f interest that cost could be cut drastically. If I don't use them I am sure I will find someone glad to have them

They made my 68 style seat covers and full interior. All heat pressed. Canadian gmc trucks have the chevy style door vinyl though.

Re: Gauging Interest on 1967 GMC Super Custom Door Panels

Ok, my bad. I read his initial post and replied. we.re good. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't think it's a lot of money, especially my broke butt. But I'm a fool for the differences in GMC and will find a way to get such things no matter what.

I hope more show interest here. I would reconsider my original plans if I could get these. One thing for sure. We are bumping this to the top each time

Re: Gauging Interest on 1967 GMC Super Custom Door Panels

These panels are correct for the mid level trim package ("Custom") as well. In fact the door panel pictured above is from my 67 GMC "Custom".

Hoping we get more interest so the price to be factory correct is more affordable
