283 Double Groove Water Pump Pulley

I have a 1965 C10 Fleetside with a 283 and I am in the process of installing a factory air system I recently picked up. I have found a double groove crank pulley but I am having trouble finding a double groove water pump pulley that is the same diameter (7") as my original single groove. Were 7" diameter double groove water pump pulleys made? Everything I can find for a 283 are 66.4"

Re: 283 Double Groove Water Pump Pulley

Having just went through this myself, I can tell you that I too was unable to find a double groove for my 283 in the same diameter as my old single. I went wtih the 6.6 which is still made by G.M. The extra r.p.m on the fan will probably be good for the a/c anyhow.

I thought I read here that the 327 was what they put the AC on and 283's were out luck with no parts to do it.
I have a nice built 283 that I wanted to install in a truck with the dealer installed factory model AC unit from
My 66' GMC parts truck which had a big block 351E V6. Glad to hear it is possible.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably just go with the 6.6".

My friends and I have a joke, "All 283's are 327's until, you check the numbers." Thats not to say that people are lying, but that the two look so similar that far too many people just make the optimistic assumption and never check for confirmation. If a bolt on part will fit a stock 327, it wil likely fit a stock 283 too.

Jon, that's not true. AC was available on six cylinders, 283 and 327s . In dash air was available in 1964 and the largest V8 was a 283 .

Re: 283 Double Groove Water Pump Pulley

A 283 is a small block just as a 327 or 350 for that matter. Most all small block parts are interchangeable to a certain degree

LT1 Burb let me know if you find them. I would be interested in the water pump pulley.

Re: 283 Double Groove Water Pump Pulley

Captain is right, and that certain degree involves water pumps and pulleys as well as few other things so take note if the water pump has a long snout or a short snout and get the pulleys for your particular style. The various pumps and pulleys will still bolt on... but the stickler is making sure they line up correctly.
