1967 c20 "annabelle"

This is the wife's new toy. It is a 67 c20. It is a 2 owner truck and mostly all original. Original 327 still runs well and has good oil pressure and does not make any noise. plans are to keep it a c20. I will tow my beetles to car shows with it and drive it to car shows also. We are planning to make goodguys in march. We just got it last Saturday. I drove it 40 miles home with no problems at all home. It has factory ac and th400. No power brakes or power steering. Just today I put in a order from performance online for power disk brake kit and lowering springs for the rear and the brakes come with drop spindles. So it will be 2.5 inch lower in front and 2 inches lower in the rear. We cant go too low cause we still want to tow and our drive way and street are not the smoothest in the world. It does have some rust but nothing structural that I found so far. Over all it was a unmolested truck. It is a "custom" cab. I am not real sure what that means. It has a massive eaton rear end in it. I think it is a h052. I like the rear end cause it is a eaton and that is what most peterbilts have and that is where I work. I may be able to find parts for it. Any ways that is the plan so far. Here are a few pictures.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

Today I changed oil and filter. Flushed coolant and put on a new cap. Also installed a new antenna and fixed the reverse light socket. Also let the wife and daughter wash it.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

She likes it. She is used to this by now. We have a 59 and 70 beetle 85 suburban and now this truck and a 13 elantra. Hope one of them is her first car.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

The new tires showed up today. Also gave pol a call to check on my brakes and they said they are still building the kit and to call back at the end of the week. Sure hope they ship this week. Need to have everything done by March 20th for goodguys car show. We plan to drive it to dfw and stay there for the weekend and enter in the show so we have some shade when we are tired of wandering around.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

Got the tires installed. The front ones look a little small but with the drop spindles I think they will be great. The rears look like they will be good too. Sorry for the crappy photo.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

It has been a while but SOME of my order is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am not sure if it is just me but so far I am not real happy with performance online. I have called twice and twice they said they will call me back and they didn't. I waited 3 hours and then called them back and they still had to go check what they were supposed to be checking when we hung up. I really hope the kit I ordered is really nice. Has anyone had any dealings with them? Surely they are not always like this.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

I've just recently dealt with preformance online. Ordered disk brake front for my 69 burban. Only issue I had was a caliper was improperly installed causing the banjo bolt threads to be stripped (came from this like that) they are replacing it for free thank God. But my order did take almost 5 days to get shipped. They told me they had to gather all the parts which I was ok with.

Hope that helps
Looking forward to more progress

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

Glad to hear your kit was pretty good. I put my order in on the 6th. I just got them to send some of my stuff last Friday. They still don't have my brake kit ready. How are you gonna sell something you don't have. When I called them Friday they said it still may be 2 weeks tell it ships. If I would have known this when I ordered the stuff I would feel better I guess. But no ware on the page did it say it was back ordered or would take forever to get. I have to have my order and have it all installed by March 20 so we can make goodguys. If I don't have it i am gonna be super pissed. I really hope things work out cause they seem to have a lot of nice stuff. And they sponsor this site.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

yeah I could see your frustration with not having the parts when it say nothing online about it. I would have ordered elsewhere if they didn't have my front brake kit available at the time. now ive got it all on and my truck doesn't want to idle at less than 2k rpm I don't even know where to start looking. carb are out dated and im waiting on my 5.3 to finish being rebuilt so I can pull the motor

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

I would guess your hose or booster is leaking causing the high idle.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

So I installed the 2 inch drop springs in the rear today. Wheel well was 33 7/8 before the drop and 33 7/8 after the drop springs. I was expecting more of a drop. How long do new springs take to settle in? Also pol came threw again. I ordered a set of spring retainers with bolt and the freaking bolts were all too short. I really hope the brake kit is better.

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

Not sure what to think of the drop springs...every time I fool with coil springs, nothing works out the way I want.
I like the looks of pickups that have been lowered some, but not lowered a lot...I'm learning (my point of view) that leaving original springs alone can give the suspension a lower ride height, may not be what most like, though, this usually contributes more in the front end...
I like the factory rear coils, they have two spring rates built into them. The center coils that are closer together, create the nicer ride, and the coils above and below that are spaced further apart, contribute to the load carrying ability.

Are you going to get the A/C going in it, some day???

How do the 3/4 ton drum brakes perform??? The half tons use 11X2 drums front and rear, and are inadequate when at their best. My 67 and 68 will both be disc converts before their next time on the road!!!

Re: 1967 c20 "annabelle"

This is our first coil spring truck. I want it 2 inches lower in the rear to get rid of the gap between the tire and wheel well. 2 would have done it. May just get lowering blocks for the rear. Not real sure just yet cause the brakes and springs was all we could afford right now. I am just hoping drop spindles will not make it look bad with the nose down that far. We like a rake on it but not a ton. Guess we will just have to load the bed up with stuff for goodguys.

Cause it is the wife's truck we want the Ac working. Currently the heat does not even work. It blows but not hot. I am pretty sure the cables are all jacked up cause the controls are really hard to move.

The drums are ok. They pull pretty good but it will stop. Disc brakes will be here Tuesday.
