What color for my wheels?

I am going to repaint my wheels and can not decided on white or black. I like the classic white look but hate the wagon wheels and think black will camouflage the wagon wheels. I also have black paint.

Re: What color for my wheels?

Black works as does a body or contrasting color which Dodge did a lot. A set of trim rings can really change the looks.
In med olive with trim rings you would have a whole new look.

Re: What color for my wheels?

Black or silver. The white doesn't tie in to any of the colors on the truck- unless your rear bumper is white. Can't tell in the pic.

If it were mine, I'd paint them black to tie in w the black in the grille.

Re: What color for my wheels?

I hated wagon wheels when they were everywhere. Now I see them as a wheel from the era and would take them over most alloys offered these days. I'd paint them white because wagon wheels are white and it's just right. I think black will make your truck look dark and dull. Body color with beauty rings and '90s chevy center caps would be how I would hide the wheels

Re: What color for my wheels?

Body color green or black...White aint workin with that dark green. I like Tim's idea of the trim rings and center caps...I like that dark green by the way, it matches the truck, Stout!

Re: What color for my wheels?

Or, you could take a turn in another direction and go argent, same as rallyes (with rings and caps). I personally like the idea of a darker grey metallic, like gun metal. These are colors not found on the truck but could be introduced nicely. Right now I just see green and another color could do a lot for it

Re: What color for my wheels?

No matter what color you paint them, wagon wheels are wagon wheels. I'd suggest saving yourself the time and upgrade when you're ready. It is surprising what a little paint can do but if you don't like them..... what's that saying about polishing a turd?

Spoke wheels can look good in the right application. Funny how they were what everyone was buying and now it seems everyone hates them. Back when they were the rage I was running wide steelies and it seemed no one noticed. Now those are the rage. Everywhere I looked in the '80s I saw saw-blade alloys when I was running those outdated aluminum slots. Don't follow the heard and you might find the heard following you

Same can be said for short beds/stubbies/SWB. Used to be nobody wanted them. Sold for cheap. Now they are all the rage. A trend which will likely change like any other.

I hear ya! I don't mind them and in fact think they look downright awesome in certain applications. However, the OP said he hates them. My point was painting the rims doesn't change them, if he "hates" them now as he said, I can't see paint making them tolerable. Hate is a strong word after all!

Re: What color for my wheels?

I kinda like the gunmetal idea. Is there a trim ring that will fit 16 in wagon wheels?

Getting different steel wheels isn't an option?
You've made some great progress with the truck BTW.

Re: What color for my wheels?

I used to rock the white spokes!

I would paint them white like they were to give them the new fresh look till your budget allows you to get what your hankering. You won't mind them as much if they are "fresh"

Re: What color for my wheels?

I had this lift, tires, & wheels sitting in the shop for a good while. At first I was upset to find a cat or rodent had gotten in there and peed on a couple wheels enough to eff the powdercoat up to have it pop off and rust started. But this was perfect since I wanted the truck to look like it had been this way a long time...like since back when white spokes were popular. The tires were ProComp Xtremes for my beach set of tires. i was going to mostly run a set of Super Swampers on wide steelies I had and have a more showy set using the slots with Ground Hawgs. But the white spokes I thought looked good on there for a nothin' fancy look. The reason I went this route first was 4WPH had a buy 3 get one free deal and they only offer 16s, so the white spokes were the cheapest wheel. for just a little more I could have gotten round holes but it was about the least spent while gaining a vintage look, justa driver, no big deal vibe (& to show people spokes could look good )

Re: What color for my wheels?

I agree with Tim. Paint them body color, add center caps, chrome lug nuts and beauty rings. I went that route with my rally's and love it. Some say that is too much of one color, but I say to each his own. My 2 cents... Dan

Re: What color for my wheels?

Black.....try por-15, its just about bomb-proof, but you'll have to cover it with some clear cause it doesn't last in the sunlight. And the clear will give the wheels a shine that matches the shine in the green paint.
