Dually rear with non dually rims

Would there be a problem running standard rims on a dually rear?

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

I figured that, but since the wheel centerline is not the same would it cause some kind of uneven load on the hub bearings or some kind of other accelerated wear?

The wheels would sit out further. As for bearings, it should still be fine with respect to the location between the wheel and hub. That distance has not changed.

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

I'm interested to hear anything you come up with.

I have a 84 cab/chassis with a stake bed.

I don't like the duals and want SRW, but I want stock diameter tires with 16in wheels.

I understand the cab/chassis rear end is narrower than the dually pick up rear end.
That should put the single tires in some.

I have another 84 C30, 2wd, SRW I can swap with.
I'll mess around with it in a couple months, when it's not zero degrees.

I think I have a pic of my truck from when the previous owner did this.

C & C dually axle is the same width as a SRW axle, and I could use that C & C axle if you want to part with it !?

Sorry, not looking to part with it.
Here's the truck.

The flat bed is 8x8.
It is a real pain when plowing snow, which is 90% of what this truck does.

I want to go SRW and narrow the flat bed to the width of the cab.
And, keep 16" wheels.

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

I never saw this truck in person, it was on CL for a while in N Michigan.
The owner didn't build it, but insisted it was a" factory dually".

I'm pretty sure it was a Cab and Chassis axle on a SRW truck.
I happen to think it looks OK.

I think so too ! Otherwise the bed wouldn't fit so good.

The cab and chassis is more narrow then a srw axle,People had tried using them and had to tube the bed inter fenders to run the drw.

Hubs are the only difference and I have a flatbed.

63'' vs. 67" wms to wms

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

There's a small ledge on SRW hubs that prevent a dually rim from being mounted on it, so the center hole is a tiny bit larger on a SRW hub and wheel. Wheels should fit, make sure to use cone-shaped lugs that will center the wheel on studs.

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

I wonder what a cab and chassis rear would look like under my crew cab stepside.

Re: Dually rear with non dually rims

You'd have to do some little tubs. Spring perches aren't in the same place as conventional cab-and-bed configuration, they're based on the old 34" wide frame rails, so you'd need to move them. Not a big deal.
There's a definite difference in the overall axle with a C&C. The SRW and DRW are based on the same axle tube setup, hubs are the only difference. The C&C is narrower overall. I have a dually C&C, could swap with SRW hubs and end up really narrow.
