Re: 70 C10 cant get gauge cluster out!
Here is the order of events you need to follow to remove your cluster properly.
First, disconnect the battery and pull the head light switch knob out all the way. Reach up under the dash and there is a small spring loaded button on top of the head light switch you need to depress that and pull the knob out at the same time. Using a small flat blade (pocket screw driver) loosen the set screw and remove the wiper knob. Remove the two chrome bezels for the head light switch and wiper switch. Reach under the dash and remove the speedometer cable from the cluster. You may need some pliers but most of the time, the cable is hand tight. Unplug the harness connector which is located right near the fuel gauge. Using a 5/16 line wrench or very good quality wrench, remove the oil pressure line from the oil pressure gauge. Remove the metal plate under the steering column and remove the strap that holds the column up. There is a debate on whether you actually need to drop the column but I would to be safe. Once the cluster is loose and you realize you do need to drop the column, it makes it more difficult than just spending the extra 5 minutes to drop it. Once the column is down, remove the 6 screws that hold the cluster to the dash and pull the cluster out. There you have it. Hope this helps. Ask questions if you need further help. Take care, Tom
