Interior Color

Just bought a 1971 Cheyenne, father/son project. It's not in too bad of shape but needs a little work. Eventually we will paint the exterior and my son likes black cherry. The interior needs painting now and we are getting it prepped. We are trying to figure out what color to do the interior that would go good with the black cherry so we thought we would get some opinions. My eye for color ain't the best so please give me some ideas. Thanks

Re: Interior Color

Most of the interior sheetmetal from the factory is painted the same color as the exterior. Black, Saddle and Parchment (white) are all classic GM pairings with Black Cherry on the Chevelle/ElCamino. In fact the factory 1970 code 78 or WA3307 would be a good choice and even a plausable special order paint.

My choices would be a Black or Parchment Cheyenne vinyl interior.

Re: Interior Color

If your looking for something of less of a factory look, maroon would go well with that color since that color has the maroon tint to it it would seem natural to me. Jim

Re: Interior Color

I like stock colors, but tend to go in "my own direction" on paint and upholstery.

With RAT, I had a similar situation. I wanted top go "Black Cherry" (there are a million colors named "Black Cherry").

But, it came time to do the interior of the cab and firewall and engine compartment. I hadn't found the right "Black Cherry".
But I found some somewhat inexpensive one-step Kirker Black Cherry online.

I painted the interior and firewall and front inner wheel wells and fenders with the Kirker. Not really thinking...So, I was stuck.

I like saddle and black. But I had a set of gray leather buckets. And I was offered a brand new bench seat in gray, too.
Since it looked like gray would be a reasonable fit...I was off to the races.

Then I found the good Black Cherry for the exterior. But, I couldn't afford six million dollars for the material, and another four
million for the labor.

Now, I had gray. Gray carpet. Gray seats, gray headliner. Gray door panels. Gray kick panels out of a $20 carpet remnant from
Big Lots.

I COULD actually afford the primer/color/clear for the silver.
And The Boss was paying. She liked the 792 color code.

So, as much as Black Cherry four stage exterior and interior (dash, etc.) paint, and a dark parchment/cream upholstery would be
my first choice, here's where I ended up. And, here's where I'll have to stay.
