Factory rear end
So I was looking at my rear end, driveline and where it connects to the tranny. There are no u joints! How does this flex with the suspension? Is it possible to use the rear end with a th350 trans? Thanks

Re: Factory rear end
The drive shaft is enclosed, the u-joint is on the front of the torque tube.
You can use that rear end with a th350, but you will have to pull the torque tube and swap in a 55-62 Chevy truck pumpkin. Then you would need to weld leaf spring pads on the rearend, and have a drive shaft built. |

Re: Factory rear end
Just curious, but why would you have to weld leaf spring pads on?
Its already set up for the factory leaf springs, right, or is that to get the pinion angle re-set?

Re: Factory rear end
With the torque tube removed, there is no "link" to prevent the axle from pivoting up on the springs.
This axle has overload springs attached (overloads are on top) but you can clearly see the bracket attaching the main spring to the axle and it shouldn't take much to see how the axle can pivot around that bracket. |

Re: Factory rear end
I just dropped my driveline today to pull the I6 for the 5.3 swap. took me a few minutes to figure out how to get to the u joints. Hadn't seen that style before.
