Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
Can you name the things that are not correct?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-GMC-Sie...p2056016.l4276 This should be a lesson on how not to do it... |

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
Head light bezels are for 79-80 and the bed is off a newer truck that has square gas doors. Only obvious ones for me

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
The tail gate also isn't the proper 73/74 one. Hate how the white two tone stops at the tail lights. Good looking truck none the less

How they stopped the two tone at the tail lights bugs me to no end, but still it's clean.

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
Paint on center section of tailgate and bedsides missing, later model bedsides with gas tank doors, no white paint under rear window, wrong tailgate insert, 79-80 headlight buckets and lower grille/valence trim, fully blacked out grille, that looks like a a/c idle stepper motor mounted on the carb linkage, no windshield wiper motor liquid lines, and that wild fuel line are a few that stand out badly.

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
The original 2-tone paint on Dad's 77 GMC was like that. The secondary color didn't go all the way across under the rear window. The rear cab molding covers it up to the point where it's hardly noticeable. But it stands out more on that ebay truck because the cab molding appears to be mounted down a bit lower than it was from the factory.
I think that changed for 81+ though. The narrower rear cab molding used for those years doesn't cover that area as much so they did run the secondary paint color all the way across under the window. Maybe I'm missing something, but what's incorrect about the fuel gauge? |

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
Buyer beware. At first glance it looks pretty clean but it's not what he is trying to sell with his ad copy.
I happen to like the fuel doors and the later headlight surrounds. Those are not a "numbers matching" feature on a 1974. I do see some possible Bubba wiring being covered up along the firewall with gray split loom. A properly done restoration repair would include re-wrapping that in wire harness tape. No need to hide a proper repair. No telling what's underneath that loom. The wiring draped along the top of the exhaust manifold is another nice touch. The Autozone battery cables are not correct. They should be side terminals and the ground should be Black. Notice the custom 454 425HP decal on the air cleaner??? The 1974 454 GMC truck motor was 230hp/325ft lb... The incorrect 2 tone that ends before the tailights and doesn't continue across the tailgate is another glaring neon sign that this rig might not meet expectations. Once I spot sloppy work like that it starts to make me very leery of what might be hiding under that new paint on the body and engine.

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
Grille and bumper stick out to me right away. Then the paint lines, headlight bezels and tailgate trim. Next is stereo, engine bay mess. Also should the mirrors be the bigger style that were typically with the Camper Specials?

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
The only thing I really have a problem with is that he states "all original", when clearly it is not.
Looks decent enough otherwise.

Re: Poorly 'Restored' 74 GMC
I'd pimp it, its a nice truck...... just shouldn't be advertised as "fully restored"
More like a nice restoration but not factory correct on everything. Probably nicer than my truck will ever look
