84 k10 hid headlight question
Got a 84 k10, done with my ls swap, but looking into lighting, have any of you guys put the hid kit headlights in your trucks? If so how did you like them?

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Honestly true and good hids are not cheap at all to do,A good upgrade is h4 housings with the wiring with relays. The next step up is led head lights that just bolt right in.Price goes cheapest h4 swap then hids/leds depending where you get them.

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
I noticed that last night when looking them up, I want them to look like they belong there and not some hacked up job, and also want quality

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
The problem is the lights size 4x6 is harder to find good hid pojectors for,And don't trust the ebay cheapo 100 dollar kits those are junk.

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Or you can buy h4 head light housings and the wiring harness with relays.Hella brand your looking about 100 bucks for a set of two lights,The wiring with the relays is 30 bucks from lmc or you can spend more,For single lights http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=517951 and dual lights http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=522485 Only thing left is the light bulbs they range from 5 bucks to 30 depending brand.

Oh, yeah, if a bulb goes out, you can buy them just about anywhere in a variety of wattage. But try the included 55/60 first.

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
If you have the single headlight front (5x7 H6054) the option that I would recommend is the trucklite LED headlamps. These ones. (link) Yes, they are expensive, but they are worth every penny. I have personally installed a set on a Jeep Cherokee that had a set of H4 conversions lenses and high output bulbs, the results are incredible. On my '83 I have a set of H4 lenses and HIDs, I am not overly impressed. They're not ebay cheapies, they were quality lenses (Bosch or Hella, I don't remember right now) and the pattern/output is not that good. It is more light than a sealed beam, yes, but it isn't' efficiently placed. Those Trucklite's are both, lots of light with great placement.
I read through your build thread and I do not see where you have swapped to the dual lamp front with the 4x6 lights. If you have done that swap, let me know, I have some things bookmarked somewhere for those too.

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Another vote here for the trucklite LEDs. Fantastic. Excellent (and dot legal) lights. I also use the plow light version on the same truck.

This link is merely for reference info. I'm a member of nastyz28 as well (junkyardz28find) since I have a 73 Z28. You'll notice the owner of dapperlighting reveals some good data/info about his products, answers questions honestly and is generally very good to talk with both on forums and in PM's. That link shows various beam patterns with his kits and I wouldn't hesitate to use a set of his housings/kits though I'd prefer to build my own relay kits only because that's my specialty. |

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Leds, my buddy was just telling me about those, what's the biggest difference? I just ordered a 54 inch light bar the other day, they would match better...which is better at night? Hids or led?

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Not questioning you cause I love having light at night as well. Are you looking for the brightest possible for running back roads or are you looking for when you can't have brights on?

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
That's a very awesome question...I'm really looking for the best of both really....like a happy medium...I like it to be bright when I'm just going down the highway and like to know when my brights are on on a back road

Re: 84 k10 hid headlight question
Max distance good hids win anything else the leds are better. Both do have a downside the hids take a few secs to warm up and give full light. And the leds don't get hot so in snow they can get covered in snow.On the leds you have two options now a full replacement headlight or they make a led replacement bulb for the halogen style lights.Take a look http://olympusoffroad.3dcartstores.c...air_p_161.html
