how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
Hi guys, my dad ordered himself a brand new GMC sierra for the first time in 25 years and he stopped by the dealership yesterday to find the truck in the lot with the wheel wells and mirrors sprayed with mud and all the plastic taken out of the interior. But what seems even more concerning is, it has 38km on it. They claim the truck arrived with 28km on it and the PDI added another 10km.
Has anyone had a recent experience with a new vehicle delivery? |

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
A buddy of mine considers a car "brand new" if there's no more than 30km on it and I believe that's reasonable. Now, for a truck, i think 38km is going over. Not the most pleasant delivery i see. I don't appreciate mud on anything new. Hope it's in good working condition though.

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
I've only had two new vehicles:
2001 F150 - it had 9 miles on it, after my test drive, it had 11. It looked like it had never been touched before, and in-fact, we watched the dealer remove the plastic seat coverings and window film in order to drive it. I was satisfied that was a "virgin". 2012 Silverado - was a transfer vehicle, so it had 38 miles. Which is pretty close to the distance from dealer to dealer. I was not thrilled with that, but eventually let it go. My selling dealer pissed me off so much on other issues that this one was forgotten entirely.

My new work vans have come with anything from 4 to 28km on the odometer.

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
Was it a truck he ordered and had built or was it one the dealership found somewhere else and traded for it? I ordered my 2014 Silverado and had it built and when I picked it up it had 3 miles on it. When I ordered my 2001 S10 and had it built it had 12 miles on it when I picked it up. I think someone may have taken it out for a ride though since it was a 6 cylinder with a 5 speed and had the sport suspension on it. I also signed a paper verifying it had 7 miles on it before I dove it home and noticed it actually had 5 extra miles on it.
Did they at least detail the truck for him?

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
Definition of "new" at a dealership and legally is that it has never been registered not miles. Cars that are driven by managers with dealer plates are still new regardless of miles. You, the purchaser can always not buy it if some miles concern you. All the new cars I have purchased generally have had around 9-12 miles with very few being slightly over at 20 or so. I would not be concerned about 30-40 miles, I would be concerned with the mud.

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
Thank you everyone for the great replys.
My dad has refused delivery of the truck, after I looked at it and found that the front bumper and fender are also out of line... this truck seems to be a lemon or has been repaired. The dealership's manager has finally agreed to reorder another truck for him and will call us before they even move it in their lot, plastic covered and a max of no more than 5km on it. |

Re: how many kilometers should there be on a brand new truck?
Hi Guys I work at Flint Truck ASM. we have storage lot all over the city some are miles away! right now we are short of rail cars, so we are storing trucks all over and some of them are going many miles to the storage lots and the weather has been Crap! so I'm not surprised about the dirt! But the dealer should take care of that. Pete
