1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Hello All. I am new to this forum and with Blazers, My brother had on when I was a kid and remember so many times taking weekend trips in it and I always wanted one.\I picked one up about a month ago for $2500 including delivery from 190 miles away. The truck was taken to a hunt camp and someone messed up the wiring so there it sat...

I have started cleaning her up and pressure washed her today and it is now in the garage and started to rebuild.

Nice! Welcome to the forums and Blazer ownership. Looks like your jumping right into it. Keep it up and keep us in the loop with pictures and updates. Congrats!

It is hard for me to ell from the pictures. Was the original color orange, red or copper?

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Where is the best place to get correct good quality rocker panels for my 1971 Blazer.

I hear stories about bad fit, wrong shape and poor quality.

I think rockers are all pretty good (triplus,)get them through Wes or Gmc Pauls. There are always listings on the parts boards for Nos ones though...usually 285-300 a pair.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Hello again all
I have been working on my 71 Blazer and like all of you know, "it takes Time'.

I scored on a set of wheels and tires yesterday for $400 and I have attached the new hard top. after attaching the hard top I had to re adjust the doors to close correctly, they were not off by much but the old owner adjusted them when the top was off.
Now I have all my sheet metal and I will start metal work. I also have the like new seats that I bought for the truck for $250

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Thanks guy's I can't wait to get her done and install the seats.

The crossmember has been removed and someone has welded is steal plates from lower rail to end of motor mount plate. I would like to re-install an OEM crossmember. If any of you have an old 350 4x4 engine crossmember please let me know and what you want for it..

Picked up my $1500 Doner truck to get parts off, problem now is...
Should I take from this or sell as complete truck. And spend any money made on parts for Blazer.
Hate to rare apart a truck this good.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Thanks guy's on the seats. I see just the new covers going for $250+ so when the guy said $250 I thought "maybe he means per seat" Nope.... got there and he just wanted $250 for all..
I felt guilty so I also bought the complete AC system that he was selling as well. And that even came with an original new radiator also..

I was just in the right place at the right time.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

My truck is missing the front engine mount Crossmember. I see that some of you have replaced them with the new tube crossmember. Does anybody have the old crossmember that they would like to sell.. ???

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

The 4 wheel drives don't have the same kinds of crossmembers so maybe it does. What's holding the motor up now? Do you have a picture of the one under the motor?

OK, Had my buddy come over yesterday and we removed the body. The frame is now a roller.
I was very happy with what I found under the body, the frame is clean with almost no rust.

The Body needs to be cleaned and then painted underneath, Then set back on frame with new bushings.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

I got mine from poly performance like ten years ago. How were your bolts coming out? Their kit doesn't come with new bolts. Lmc sells the kit with stock rubber bushings and bolts for a little more. I like how solid the poly bushings make the truck feel though. I'm sure there are more kits out there but these are the two I looked at when I needed some.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Not a lot to go wrong inside a 205. If the bearings feel fine and doesn't leak I'd leave it alone. Clean it good of course while its out. Replace fluids. How long since it has been moved since the truck was Running. If it was fine then it should be fine now. But if you are just rebuilding everything just because then you know it's been done that's your call. I like to not spend extra money that doesn't really need spent myself. How many miles on the odometer and are they real
Miles? One can never know. You can pull the side inspection plate to see how it looks inside without actually tearing it apart.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

trany is at my builder, he will check everything out and if needed it will get a complete rebuild.
He also said to bring in the NP205 and he will pull side and inspect..
The rear seal is leaking so he will replace all output seals.

to some it looks like I'm moving quickly but I can't do but just a little at a time. Its amazing what you can do with a floor jack and an engine lift.

Re: 1971Blazer Rebuild in texas

Well.. Thanks to the help from a member here, I have my OEM engine cross-member installed.
The Turbo350 Trans and NP205 transfer case are out to the rebuilder and should be done next week.

Just one thing at a time, It makes it easier to see the project getting done.

Thank you to all on this site for help and motivation.
