Lesser of two evils

So I disassembled my 1987 and scrapped the cab and frame. I bought a 1986 shortbox with a 70's 350. The frame has a few holes near the left rear wheel and the cab needs corners and rockers which I have. But it has a sunroof that I don't want and it's pretty rusty at the back at the the bottom with one hole going into the cab. I don't REALLY want to replace both the frame AND cab since they'll be about $1000 Cdn each for used southern pieces. Which is easier to fix if I keep one and replace the other? I'm a capable welder but haven't done rockers/corners or patched a frame. I don't want anything fixed half-assed on this truck since I've finally decided on this truck as being the project.

Uhhh, how about you jack up the battery, and run a new truck under it? I'm not much of a welder either, but I can get the job done. The grinder is my best friend if you know what I mean.

If I had to choose, I would say the frame would be the easiest to weld on, since it has the thickest metal. Trying to weld in patch panels takes a lot more patience. That's something I don't have a lot of....

I'd say fix the frame and buy a good cab.

As odd as this will sound, if you keep the body in good shape and later decide to replace the frame it will probably be simpler to just transfer everything over to the new frame than to change cabs, repaint, etc, etc...

Thanks for the advice guys, still not 100% sure what I'll do yet. Now I'm thinking of driving this truck for a bit and selling my Cavalier, then buying an everyday truck before the snow comes so I can get to work on the '86.
