Finally Got a Patina Truck
So the other week I found a sweet 69 swb plain jane farm truck about an hour away from me. I was able to put a deal together with the guy and now its mine. Here's the rundown, its a factory 6 banger 3ot truck, at some point someone switched out the 6 cylinder for a 350, needs rockers, some rust above the windshield, bed floor is shot, other then that its pretty solid and straight. It hasn't ran in 5 years but I'm gonna see if I can change that next weekend. I am torn between getting it running and selling it or keeping it and making a bagged daily driver. Either way its a cool truck, thought I would share with you guys. Let me know what you think

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Thanks guys, the more I work on it the more I wanna keep it. Either way I'm gonna take it to the auto fair and see if I get any decent offers, if not I'll make it my daily. This weekend I spent a good amount of time working on it. I did a drop front and rear, got it running, scrubbed down everything with a toothbrush and SD-20 to get rid of the funk. I used a little clr on the rust to slow it down but didn't scrub it all off. I also pressure washed the engine compartment and inside the cab after I cleaned it all out. I got some good tires mounted and painted the wheels and put a freshly painted old bumper on. Ive been pretty busy but I only have this weekend and next before the auto fair so I don't have much time. Anyway, let me know what you guys think

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Also tossing around the idea of using these bed stake pocket deals, I think they look pretty good but I might round the back edges of the horizontal boards, what do you guys think?

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Loose the boards. They take away from the cool patina

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
I personally like the boards. The only thing I would've kept was the original bumper with its patina. I like the solid white steel wheels though. Add some dog dish caps and you're ready to go on there... oh, and I agree on rounding the corners of the wood on the side.

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Nice truck. Boards arent for me, and the mirrors are pretty huge, but both easily removed.

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Sweet truck...shouldn't have any problem unloading that at the Auto Fair. I drove my 66 up last year and parked out in our spot in the green field. Could've sold it a dozen times over if I was actually wanting to sell it.

The blue chevy is my dads friends, bought it in SC a few months ago. Its an original paint cheyenne longbed with AC, nothing too fancy just a good ole work truck If I leave them I will stain them to look the right vintage, right now its just new wood I cut up and threw on there. Quote:

That's where we are gonna be, green field. I have a number in my head as to what its worth when its all said and done. If no one reaches it then I'll bring it home, either way I'm gonna be happy haha

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
I like it !! I'd say keep it and drive it so you have a parts hauler and very cool driver. Some don't like the boards but I do. I put almost a same exact set on my LWB 71 last year and get TONS of compliments on the truck. And.....it's just like yours....funky and a bit rusty.
That reminds me.......its time to photog the thing and share it with you guys! |

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Well I'm done working on the 69. She's all ready for the show this weekend. Part of me is hoping no one buys it so I can do an ls swap and make it my daily

Re: Finally Got a Patina Truck
Looks good. How bad is the floor & windshield frame/roof rust? Those will determine the price for sure if looking to sell it. The roof/windshield frame can be a pain in the ass repair so that's a big issue, but the rest is easy enough to fix usually lol One of my '68's was that green colour. Such a cool colour for these trucks!
