Angry I need to sell alot of my stuff!!!

Well I just found out my wife that is 7 3/4 months might be losing her job, so no income and no insurance from her might put me in a bind around here. She is in sales and they gave her a written warning that she has to hit QUOTA or she gets tossed!! She has a month to hit it. This really sucks thats all she needs is to be stressed right now when the baby is about due. Man I'd love to meet her bosses face to face but she won't let me close to them. I'm not a big man but I can get pissed off and this upsets me. I hope it doesn't hurt her pregancy and a our little girl in there. I guess some bosses don't really care about what condition there employees are in. Anyway I need to get rid of some of my parts around here, they are listed on the parts board and I have alot more parts sitting around here too. Sorry just venting a bit. Thanks Randy

Doesn't sound good. Has she been below her quota? Sounds like the guy is just trying to get some paperwork to protect himself when he fires her. Coincidence that this is happening when she is getting ready to go on leave, hmmmm.

Man that's rough. Stuff like this has a way of rolling down-hill.

Just tell her to keep at it and do the best she can. If she stresses out then she needs to ask herself what's more important? The baby or her boss's bottom line.

I have a feeling she'll make the right decision. In the grand scheme of things will the earth explode if she doesn't make her quota? Moreover, if her boss decides to fire a pregnant woman a week before she's due there's a few things she can do to give him some second thoughts (hint hint). He's not being very smart...

Perhaps a visit to the Doc for a stress checkup, might translate to an early maternity leave for the wife and a in yer' face for the boss.

Thanks for the input guys. The last four months she has 84%, 82%. 69%, and 61% of her quota which I know is off, she says she can't get anybody to buy anything. Also she made a major blunder when filling out her form for work, never checked short term disablilty so she doesn't have any maternity leave, great!! Any help is appreciated, by the way this is a pretty big name company she works for. Thanks Randy

Randy

Sorry to hear about you and your wife's situation. I agree with the above, some bosses are just jerks and he is probably getting heat from his bosses and wants to pass the blame. But with my expirence with quota's, the bosses sets them higher than they expect so employees work harder. I worked at a state job and they tried that quota crap and not one of us made it and nothing was said.

Thanks

David

teeitup,

It's a tough economy everywhere...the vise is tightening and sales people WILL always get squeazed...sometimes it makes you feel like a failure and I know...I am in sales and have been for awhile....gotta remember that the people above you (or your wife in this case) are only looking after themselves in most cases and are only seeing 30 days in front of them. Remeber that loyalty is a commodity today.

You can get stirred up about it, and I have been there, but all in all...it is just a job....not worth the little one's health, not worth the stress (which will compound her problem) it's just not worth it.

To me this is a sign of failure at the management level...or a way to side step maternity leave. And if so, who would want to work there and sell a company of folks like that? They should be stepping up to the plate to help out especially if she has been there a while.

My 2 pennies.

teeitup-
I know how your wife feels- I got fired from a job when I was 6 months pregnant. It bites!!! I can't believe how some bosses, or business' can run like that and not care at all about their employee's. This may be a blessing in disguise...it took getting fired for me to figure out this wasn't the right job for me, so maybe your wife will find a big light at the end of the tunnel

If your wifes company has more than 50 employees, they have to give her up to 12 weeks off with out pay, AND give her the same spot she had when she comes back with the same or higher pay. It is all part of the Family Medical Leave Act. If she takes it now it could divert the impending stress till after she goes back to work.
They also can not stop her insurance during the time she is off.

Remember that you've got maternity leave AND FMLA guaranteed you by federal law.

Also, it's discrimination to terminate someone because they're pregnant. A few calls should straighten this all out!

Randy, look for some " free initial consultation " help...I don't think they can cancel her insurance, even if they fire her now.. It is a pre-existing condition, and altho she may not qualify for maternity leave, their insurance would still be obligated to pay for the delivery!!! Get some GOOD legal advice....SUE THE BASTARDS!!!! Keep in touch!

Well today, he faxed her the report about her, cut her down real bad, got her upset. I think he's a BIG dickhead!! He's just getting all his ducks in a row to fire her, atleast that is what I think. She's getting ahold of a lawyer friend of mine, and doing some checking to see if she has any rights. Once this is all done and if she is fired, and hopefully she find another job. I'm going to contact these guys and tell what a piece of sh*t they are. Thanks for all the input!!!! Every little bit helps. Randy

I wouldn't contact anyone except your lawyer. If you call them and tell them your feelings, it may give them more ground to stand on! Are they trying to fire her because she is pregnant or because she isn't meeting the sales quota? I'd check into early maternity leave. Once she is on leave, they can't fire her until she gets back. At least you'll have the insurance during the birth. My wife got 8 weeks paid maternity through short-term disability. You might check your wife's insurance and see if they cover maternity under short-term disability. GOOD LUCK!

Unhappy

As being a business owner and a casino DEPT. mgr. It's not easy to have to make decissions like this, We're really not Monsters, Even though I have been considered worse. Most decissions come from the top, The board does the policies, procedures, and in sales they make the Quota requirements. I ran a sales staff many years ago, It really hurt my feelings to have to terminate some of the staff due to sales being under quota. Some of them turned out to be very good friends.

Tell her to start looking for another job now, before the 30 days is up.

Hell, I was let go a long time ago for not making Quota for a health club, ( I just couldn't make myself bother people while they were working out, for neighbors and friends names)

I know being expecting is adding additional stress. I wish you guys only the best of luck!!!!

I'm not calling anyone to tell them my feelings till she's gone and away from there. As I said earlier she didn't check the short term disability box so therefore no paid maternity leave. Thanks Randy

Check into FMLA. It gives her specific rights. You could do a google search for it.

termination

the eeoc says you have to make resanable acommidations for disabled people. don't know about pregnat, but i would check the equal employment oportunities commision. i finaly got my tool box moved, so now i can file with the eeoc on my diabetes. i was terminated because i couldn't spend 8 hrs on my feet. definitly going to sue these bastds. corporate america doesn't givce a rats a$$ about its emploies any more, only the bottom line. but, if you let us know who it is, then we as consumers can refuse to by from them. this gets the point across---like i said ---their bottom line.

Randy you sure seem like a good guy to me,I know you will get you and your wife through this, the best support for her is you, the only really important thing here is that baby and your wifes well been, I'd check out your legal avenues, and if that dead ends, tell her to quite so she can avoid all the stress. theres always something around the corner, you'll see, good luck

Hardly anything that ranks above your family. Congrats on the impending birth of your new daughter. Hope it is healthy.

As for jobs, I am not a salesman. I proved that during a nine-month stint trying to sell service programs for fork lift trucks to businesses that were weathering the recession (the one that the feds say is over). Thing is, people with fork lift trucks are just like us....that it, they're trying to limit expenses and the operators are forced to use the equipment with mechanical and safety problems. If they beef about the equipment, they get fired and someone else is hired at minimum wage.

Take care of your wife and child, first. The boneheads that are trying to get rid of her are not worth your wrath. They don't care. They have their money and you are not on their level (they think).

As a former supervisor with the "Worlds Largest Producer of Aluminum", I can testify to the benefits of a union organization, as far as protection of employees benefits goes. Some deserve the protection, some don't. Same in every job, everywhere, union or no union. Thing is tho, salespeople don't usually have a union, so they're left to the only thing that management can use to guage productivity, i.e., sales charts.

My former employer of 9 months, created a goals chart after I started working for them. The boss put up unrealistic sales goals that were unattainable, and were purely speculative. I told him that only after time, would there be any data on which to base the quotas. Didn't matter....the company was family-owned. The owner's 23-year old son, father of 3 girls, spend his entire day playing the same computer game....5-days a week, 8-hours a day. His job was to supervise the parts and service sales. I spent my time developing computer stuff for the jobs to be done, and so forth. Didn't matter. I got terminated because my sales were too low. I did get unemployment, but I had to fight for it. They had absolutely NO DATA on which to base my termination. No sales figures. No quotas. No disciplinary problems. No warnings. No nothing. So, the State told them that they had no basis with which to explain my dismissal, therefore, I prevailed. Big whoop! I made some adjustments, like trading two vehicles in on one, paid off some debt and began a part-time job that allows me to have 6-hour lunch breaks.

I do hope every thing goes alright. The babys health is job One! I do agree that some bosses are jerks. My highschool daughter got a job this summer and when she told them to change her work times because school was starting, her boss told her to QUIT high school or become home schooled. WHAT? She told them that was unaceptable, and they fired her the next week. I will never eat a Luby's again.
