Need help with shocks
Hey guys I ordered a new 9" from currie and they welded some new shock mounts directly to the housing. They look good only problem is they don't line up with the factory upper mounts. I'm not sure why they even did this as I never asked them to. With that said has anyone changed the mounting location like this. I was thinking I could make some new upper mounts on the factory cross bar. Not sure if shocks need to be angled a lot and inward like the factory or if i can mount them a little more vertical and straight. This is what the mounts look like. Please let me know your thoughts.

I have a leaf spring frame with the top shock mounts located in the frame. Almost where your shocks line up with exactly. I think I have a picture of them before I swapped out frames, if you would like to see what it looked like. My opinion would be to cut the old mounts off the cross member and locate them over to where they would work better. That would be a little better than cutting/welding on your new 9".

The shorter the shock, the more limited the range of travel becomes. The more limitations, the harder it gets to find an off the shelf shock that's optimum.
I would just use No LImits rear shock relocation kit. It will get you the shocks needed & uses brackets that mount off the truck arms vs rear end. The homework has already been done for you & several board members have used the set-up w/satisfactory results. Then just remove the unused rear end brackets. The alternative is to call someone like RideTech or No Limits w/your travel limitations (extended, ride height, & compressed heights); the mount type for each end; & the angle of placement for the shock & see if they can spec something specific for that combo.
