66 with 86 cross member what do i buy

I just picked up an 86 cross member and want to go ahead and lower it while im putting it on. What is the lowest you can go without notching? I have heard 4 front 5 back. Also do i just need to buy drop spindles and springs for the cross member since it already has disc brakes? I have read the other forums but just wanted to make sure before I purchased anything. Also will i need an adjustable track bar for the back? What about sway bar for the front?

Thanks!

Re: 66 with 86 cross member what do i buy

I have that setup in my 66. I have 2" springs in the front and 2 1/2" drop spindles. I used the aftermarket 6 lug rotors. Summit has the best price on them. In the rear I have 4" springs and a 1" block with the ECE super track bar and ECE shock re-locators. I am running the Belltech street performance shocks. I used the power steering adapter and brake booster bracket from Captianfab here on the board. When I did the swap on mine I did not swap the crossmember just everything else. I also did the caster mod from the make it handle thread. I got all the ball joints and other front end rebuild parts from Amazon and got some really good deals.

On the front get drop spindles from summit
CLP-CP4S4Spindles, Ductile Iron, 2.5 in. Drop, Chevy, GMC, Pickup, Pair (Mfr. #: CP4S4)

And run a 1 or 2 inch drop spring.
Note you will have to saw off the bumpstop and bracket so you dont bottom out as quickly.
Possibly install a single stud bumstop if you like to stop metal to metal bottoming out.
If you dont put a drop spring. You can run 3" drop spindles.

Ron

Check with your supplier, but you need spindles for an '86 since that's what you have. I'm sure the same part number covers multiple years, but start with asking for a set that fits an '86. I have a complete '87 not installed yet, and everything that I order will be for an '87.
Note:They are metric after about '81 or so (not sure of year)
