60-62 LS swap questions
Is there anyone out there running an LS engine in a '60-'62 torsion bar truck?

I guess I'm out of luck. I was wondering which headers would fit with my torsion bar front suspension and the LM7 I have. Maybe TBSS? Camaro? The engine still has the cast iron OEM exhaust manifold.

I have a 1961 that I put a newer crossmember in and have similar questions. From what I have read the tbss and 2010 camaro headers are most likely to fit. Not 100% though

I have a 62 with a swapped cross member (from an 84). I am using 2010 Camaro manifolds and it looks like they are going to just fit. I may end up doing just a bit of clearancing on the drivers side.

Thanks Gentlemen but I was curious about the header fitment with stock torsion bar suspensions rather than vehicles that had cross member swaps. I've invested in dropped spindles, power discs and a sway bar on my torsion bar front end and it all works well so I'm stuck with it. Just trying to find the best fitting headers for the LS swap that won't interfere with the torsion bars.

I'm in the same boat. Still would like to keep the T-bar setup.
There are differences in our frames to deal with. I could be wrong, but this is what I've gathered. 1. Frame rails are shorter yet thicker material. 2. cross member for the torsion bar keys. 3. X-frame center section. 4. bed part of the frame is slightly wider. Just kind of a FYI. I'm planning on getting the truck rolling by summer. 62' |

Im in the middle of putting a LS3 and 6l80 trans in my 62. There is no issue with the torsion bar front end, you dont have to swap it.
You need to cut the crossmember that bolts to the old bell housing out. Fab up a rear trans mount, and work out engine mounts. No cab mods required, driveshaft will need shortening roughly 5" (with the 6l80) I am using some perches from a 77, the perches I have are off a frame that is roughly 1.2" deeper than the 62 frame, they sit well on the crossmember when all squared up but need a shim at the top to make it work. |

Like Sluggy said no real fitment issues. I used eBay weld in ls motor mounts and modified them to be bolt in once I had the motor where I wanted it. X pipe tucks in well into the T-bar cross member for the exhaust. Also made custom trans cross member as I didn't have one with the 235 I had in there before.
