Schni's Blue 1983 K10
I bought the truck during winter of 2014. I sold my daily driver truck and bought this and a beater car. This was one of the better trucks for the price that I had seen in a while. You don't see too many nice truck in Wisconsin. Its a 1983 k10, with a crate 350, t400, and bald dry rotting 35s.
Here it is on the first day. |

It was hard trying not to drive it before the salt was gone. The first thing i did was cleaned the carb and bought new spark plugs. The old plugs were burned though and arching on the exhaust manifold.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
I didn't do too much after, I enjoyed it for the summer. During summer the ignition started acting up. for a while i started it with pliers the i finally pulled apart the steering column to find that the ignition rack was cracked. That fixed it. Only the crap tool they give you at autozone for pulling the lock plate was too wide so it bent in the "teeth" of the plate and made a squeaking noise. had to just press it down even.

Then I planned on painting the frame. So I removed the bed. I wasn't expecting to have to grind off 7 of the 8 bolts. that was not fun. 6 of the carage bolt hole were rounded off.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
I was still driving the truck with no bed, being lazy with the frame. Then I noticed my tail lights were not working well. That when i saw how bad the rear harness was hacked up by the a previous owner. So i ordered a new one and soldered it, and the trailer lights in. (no pictures)

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
Just this last week I had from a friend. neither of us have ever done something like this. but we managed to pull both tanks and the axle in about 2 and a half hours, prepping took about 2 to 3 hours, and painting took about 2 hours (part was painted in the dark, while the other held a light)

Took some pictures of the frame in the morning. I used por 15. I wire wheeled the frame, then de greased it and used metal prep. It looks really good.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
Hey lookin good,i like the way your getting straight to business on this project. . Post pics of actual tools you are using for prep wire wheels and such. What degreaser you using? Acetone or something like purple power? What are your plans as far as interior and cab wise? Are you gonna por 15 those areas as well? I ask this because I am doing floor in my cab and am in priming stages.Hows your Wisconsin trucks underbelly and quarter panel and floor board area lookin rust wise? Good luck with build and keep us updated !
Stop by my build sometime http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=654382 Last edited by l92powered77; 04-16-2015 at 05:26 PM. |

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
Im not sure about the cab, it has rust in bad spots. so itll be replace the metal and pay a lot or replace the whole cab. The interior is really nice except for the gauge bezel having scratches and dash pad has a couple cracks. The seat is perfect. ill be using the por 15 on all the suspension parts and frame. Ill probably do the underside of the bed and cab, but both need body work before i can do that. Ill post pictures of what i used and my rust later on today.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10
as you can see the cab has a pretty good amount of rust(except for the rockers for some reason) As for the rest, its in really good condition. the only other rust is a hole in the beds crossmember.
