What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

400 engine, TH400 trans, NP203 transfer case.

Specifically which Rochester carburetor model number? And anyone know of a source?

Without NB2 it should be #17057229 original, or a #17055297 service replacement

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Is there any way to get an Edelbrock aftermarket new carb to work with the cruise control?

That's what's on there now. It's too tall so some of the vacuum lines and hoses aren't connected, just hanging. I'd like to get this truck back to original with the proper height original carb and get the hoses hooked back up and the cruise control working. That plus a set of 16.5" tires for my stock rims, a correct AM radio and a few other miscellaneous items would just about make this truck as close to stock as I want it.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

The Edelbrock carbs are made from Chinese floor sweepings. Pitch it and get a rebuilt Rochester R4-4MV.
Rock Auto has them for around $250.00 including the $50 core.

This is a divorced choke carburetor so you'll also probably need the choke coil and stove for the intake manifold.

The 1968-1982 Cruisematic cruise control is actually pretty simple. There's a GM Service Training manual for Cruisematic and the 1977 GMC service manual itself should have fairly detailed troubleshooting and repair info.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

I'm going to take pics of the linkage and components of the cruise I was left with when I bought this truck a few weeks ago. I'll post them up.

Any tips on missing linkage or other things I need to get cruise hooked up again are very appreciated.

I see original carbs for sale, some already rebuilt. Is it better to get the Rochester R4-4MV or an original?

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Do I have all the components and linkage for the cruise control?

If I get either an original carb or the Rochester one in the reply above, will I be able to get the cruise working again?

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Can anyone provide detailed photos of the throttle, trans and cruise linkages with the Rochester carb?

Bonus if it's a 400 engine with a TH400 transmission.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Why not keep that carb and install a long stud to the cruise control cable.
Like in this pic link.

FWIW you don't have a turbo 400.

What parts do I need and how do I hook everything up? Does the cruise linkage hook to the same point as the throttle except by using a longer pin?

What do I have? I just read the M40 on my build sheet and assumed the turbohydramatic 400 transmission was still in the truck.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Get creative.
A short piece of ready rod, a few nuts and hook it up.

Your kick down linkage says turbo 350.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Looks like all of the Cruisemaster underhood components are there. It's a very simple system unlike the later setups.
The turn signal stalk should have a button in the centre for Cruise Control... This is the part that commonly fails.
The brake pedal should have a vacuum switch and extra terminals on the brake light switch.
Download the 1977 Service, Wiring and Unit Repair manuals.
Download the GM Service Training Manual for 1968-1982 Cruisemaster cruise control systems too. The service and training manual thread is linked in my signature.

The only way to tell if you still have the M40 TH400 is to look at the transmission pan.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

The Corvette guys put together a Cruisemaster troubleshooting howto. There used to be a Transducer rebuild howto but that's gone the way of the Dodo.
GM used the same system on all their cars and trucks for 14 years.

Thanks! This'll be very helpful.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Here is a pic of a Qjet with places to connect everything. Not sure what this one is off of. Found it years ago in a salvage yard barrel for $5. Back when old carbs were so common that their main value was as scrap metal.

Where do each of the linkages connect to the qjet in this pic?

Accelerator pedal, cruise, kickdown?

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Throttle cable to the top one with the clip on it.
Cruise to the one beside it.
Kickdown to the furthest right arm with the tab on it.
The arm with the hole in it is for the return spring.

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

I bought this carburetor.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181695183999...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Where can I find a stove, the choke and the choke heat coil?

Also what choke am I looking for?

Also I have what looks to be the original air cleaner but are there valves and parts inside that typically need replacing in order to get everything working properly?

Re: What carburetor came with my '77 K20 Camper Special?

Do a google search for Chevy Divorced Choke. Here is an image of one. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1315697175 There are several styles of connecting rods so make sure you get one that matches your carb linkage. Make sure you get the clip for the linkage as well.

Note that your intake has to have the matching flat spot for the heat stove to bolt to. The carb currently on your truck looks to have an electric heat stove so if a PO swapped intakes and carbs, you may have a problem.

As for the stuff on your air cleaner housing, google Chevy Thermac.

The choke itself is the smaller flat metal plate on the top of the carb. The ebay carb looks to already have that.
