New to me 1964 Chevy C-10

Thanks to my Uncle...my son, and a few good friends I was able to pick up my new to me 51 year old truck that was born in 1964 just like me...it's a 1964 Chevrolet C-10 in need of a complete restoration. The previous owners began the process so it will make the first part of my job easier because it's already been mostly disassembled. It looks like it had a restoration and/or paint job at sometime previously. The only thing left to remove from the chassis is the cab...not in a rush but plan on starting this summer by getting the front end back together so it can be rolled around...kind of hard to move it right now...almost forgot...we had to pick it up in Longview, TX and carried it to Louisiana.

Re: New to me 1964 Chevy C-10

It has bee a few months and I've finally been able to start doing a few things with the truck since we picked it up. I don't have a garage to work out of yet so I got a temporary garage from Harbor Freight on sale and built a small platform out of plywood and 2X4's to set stuff on to get it all out of the weather. Everything is now under cover and I can start going through some of the smaller stuff so I know what I've got.

I also got everything out of the inside of the cab that was stacked up inside and am ready to take the bench seat out and take the doors so I can get the cab off the frame. I've had problems opening/closing the doors and they now seem to be stuck/locked closed. Does anyone know if the doors will come off if you remove all the hinge bolts?

Forgot to add...I now have a TIG welding machine I bought from Eastwood...a fresh tank of Argon gas...and a set of plans to fabricate a cab dolly. Because I'm currently a dirt floor mechanic I'm going to use 10" pneumatic heavy duty wheels to roll it around.

Good looking start… Sweet Big Back Window!

I too have a portable garage set up, in front of a work shed, where I have done a majority of the work on my '65…

I use Flickr as well and link my photos from there to here, I commented on one of your photos on Flickr, If you have any questions feel free to hit me up…

Re: New to me 1964 Chevy C-10

Thanks to Ta2Don I now know how to make the image show up in the forum when I post something to Flicker

Have not decided what to do with the straight 6 because I'm planning on this being a retromod with either an LT1, LS2, or LS3 and an automatic.

Yepper...is actually a lot better than I expected....hopefully it's only a temporary solution...at least that is the plan.

EFI is the way to go for a daily driver in my opinion. Good start.

Re: New to me 1964 Chevy C-10

Well it has been a few weeks and I haven't gotten a lot done. I did manage to remove a few pieces of trim and the gas tank this past weekend. Also took the measurements of cab mounting points which I'll use when building the cab dolly. I hope to start on the cab dolly in the next few weeks so I can get the cab off the frame and start working on the frame.

I too was born in the same year as my C10... 1963.

Nice truck! Pretty brave starting a project that someone else dismantled. Hopefully, there isn't too many missing pieces.

Thank you Johnny. All the body parts seem to be there and most are in pretty good condition but I will need all new hardware once I start putting it back together. I figured between the forum, one of the assembly line manuals, and patience it will be OK.

I'm planning on stripping it all the way down to bare metal and going from there. I'm not in any hurry and will be doing most of the work in phases. The chassis/frame are first on my list...media blasted, power coated, and then rebuilt with new parts....then drive train and body in that order with a lot of little things going on in the midst...
