hauling a UTV in a half ton

Hey everyone. I tried searching before posting but couldnt find an answer. I have a 87 silverado half ton with an 8ft bed. I bought a new rzr 570 and use my dads truck which is a 3/4 with a 6ft bed to bring it home. I dont want to bother him every time I need it taken in for service or when I go camping. The rzr weights 1000 pounds. Regardless of my vehicle being overweight since this maybe used as a hauler 3 times a year ill take the risk. What are stock rear leaf springs rated for and what replacement leaf springs should I look into.

You should be fine, my 81 K10 short bed has a payload of 1350, a 2wd should have a little more capacity.

Sorry forgot to mention its a V10 (4x4). Would a set of helper springs not be a bad idea since the originals 28 years old

Won't hurt at all. But since you only haul it a couple of times a year, I don't know if I would worry about it.

I have a 77 half ton. I replaced the rear leaf springs a year ago, because the originals were clapped out and broken. Not entirely sure on the original load carrying capacity, call it not too much. The new springs are generic part number 22-403, and they're rated for 2300 lbs. Well, that helped a lot. I've had 1500 lbs in the box with the new springs and it's no problem. There are other capacity springs available too if you go looking.
