What is a good Cam/Intake combo?
I have an '85 GMC sierra 4x4 shortbed. It has a 4" body lift and 33" tires with stock 3.08 gears. I want to get gears, but cannot afford them right now. It has a stock GM Goodwrench crate motor in it (190 h.p.). Needless to say, this engine has no guts pushing this truck due to the low horsepower and sucky gears. Anyways, what is a good cam/intake combo to go with? I am looking for good mid-range torque for highway driving, and occasional towing. I definitely don't race the truck, so high RPM power isn't my concern. Anyone have any input? I'm also running an Edelbrock replacement q-jet carb. Model # 1904.

Slap on a good ol 2101 Performer. Or one of those Professional Products manifolds. Those can usually be had for under 98 bones.

Get a performer intake with a hydrolic falt tappet cam with specs somewhere around 214@.050. Also get a single pattern cam. They build more low end torque and not as much high end power as a split pattern.

save your pennies! if you were to upgrade the 3.08s to 3.73 or 4.10, you'd never know you had a slug under the hood. it will make a BIG difference.
