Temperature Gauge Wiring Using Stock Gauge
Good afternoon...
I have a 1961 Chevy truck (v8) with the stock temperature guage in the cluster. So instead of using an aftermarket gauge, I tried to bring this gauge back to life. I purchased the correct sending unit and installed it, but when I went to hook up the lead to the sending unit I noticed that there was no voltage being fed to the sending unit. So you know, I had previously abandoned the stock firewall connecting plug and tried to tap into the dark green, cutting the green wire on the back of the gauge and feeding that directly into the sending unit. Unfortunately, this didn't work and in hindsight I can probably see why. Can someone share with me exactly where this gauge will pick up it's source voltage? Maybe instead of cutting and splicing into the green wire, I should have just tapped into the wire at the back of the gauge using one of those "pacman" taps??? Also, does the pink wire on the back of the temp gauge just go to ground? It looks like it does... Tom

That sender looks like mine, and the green and pink wires on the gauge. Does the lead from the sender go into the green wire?
