70 C10 Steering column
I've been looking at all of the steering column threads to make sure I get the right one and now I'm confused. Could somebody post a picture of a 1970 C10 column shift tilt automatic column, the length (how it's measured) and what the electrical connector looks like please. I bought one at a swap meet the other day based on pictures I've seen here but now I'm not sure if it's the correct one?
Thanks for the help. |

Re: 70 C10 Steering column
The middle column in the first picture below is a truck automatic tilt column. The top one is a RV tilt column, and the bottom one is a van tilt column. The original connector would have been curved as in the second picture. Others were flat as in seen on the bottom column in the first picture. Frequently, a replacement turn signal switch will have the flat connector along wath a flat to curved adapter. The truck column measure about 34.5" from the collar adjacent to the steering wheel to the splined end of the shaft and about 32.5" from the collar to the end of the column housing/tube.

Re: 70 C10 Steering column
Thank you very much! Your pictures and measurements really helps. It would appear I have the correct column for my 70 C10. It's in very good shape but has no little white indicator and no safety or reverse light switch but I'm not complaining for $50.00. A little paint is all it needs.
Thanks again for the help! Jim |

Good buy! That's what the junkyard I got my collection from charges also. Pointers are readily available at the vendors. Jim |
