700R4 Shift Indicator
Quick question - I'm having a 700R4 built up for my '72 C10 & was wondering about the shift indicator. LMC sells replacement lenses, but the one for the 700R4 says it's for a tilt column - which unfortunately - I don't have. Can anybody advise me what I can do so I have the proper 4 speed indicator? Also considering putting the trans. in myself. Is it a pain to do with the coolant lines, etc.? I know I'll have to move the cross member back & re-drill the frame, shorten the drive shaft, & ensure the TV cable is properly adjusted, but am I missing anything else that could bite me? I know I'm not the first to ask, but if you could save me some hunting that'd be great!
Many thanks! Perry |

Re: 700R4 Shift Indicator
Thinking about doing the same thing myself. There is a very detailed post about all that is involved for the swap to a 700R4, but I can't find it right now. It is in one of the FAQ areas, but not sure which one, maybe someone else can post the link??

Re: 700R4 Shift Indicator
Have you checked with Shiftworks for your indicator, detent needs? I'd recommend a 200R4 over the 700. Better 1-2 shift, use your TH350 or Powerglide driveshaft yolk and no drive shaft lengthening or shortening needed!
I have a junkyard $75 200R4 with a Grand National converter, Corvette SuperServo, TCI lockup harness, Transgo Shiftkit and Shiftworks conversion kit in my Chevelle and it it holding up to over 500 flywheel horsepower. Just my $.02

Re: 700R4 Shift Indicator
I put a 700 in my truck also, using the original non-tilt column. I looked all over for overdrive shift indicator lenses, and could not find any. I don't know why they would be available for tilt only.

Re: 700R4 Shift Indicator
I took the original 3 speed auto lens out of mine, used it for a pattern, traced that onto a piece of clear lexan, then I used the clear acrylic "Ididit" Over drive indicator and applied that to the Lexan, it looks kind of Odd, but it works, at least until I can find a better substitute. I'll post a picture later, as I am at work.
Have a good one! Ben |

Re: 700R4 Shift Indicator
here's a few pictures of what I did to get a temporary indicator, until I can get one that's better, the last pic shows some discoloration, that's from super glue I used to hold the lexan in place, I used clear RTV to attach the indicator to the Lexan....Enjoy!
