Chevy blue paint confusion
Hey guys so I bought a c10 76 shortbed a few years ago barebones i6 250 3ott and it has a white top with light blue aftermarket paint job.
Well after a new crate motor, new cab, and a lot of restoring I'm Getting close to pulling the trigger on getting paint. Here is my problem: The factory sticker says the truck has hawiaan blue which for my truck is the "middle blue" but the current paint job looks closer to "sky blue" or the light blue. I know for my year they also had a darker blue I think it's called night blue? Anyways I'm hoping some of you guys can post some pix of any of these colors. I want to do a single stage two tone white can top with the white i between the chrome trim on the sides but these blues are i consistant on Google images. Go ahead and try it Loki get all three Blues if I google hawiian blue. I'm leaning towards what I believe hawwiian blue looks like. It looks good with the chrome to constrast. Sorry for the long post, but I don't want to spend extra money on paint if I can help it.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
There were 4 blues used on GM trucks in 76. My info comes from the Dupont Color guide.
#20 Sky Blue (powder blue) #23 Hawaiian Blue (med blue) #25 Catalina Blue (slightly darker med blue Metallic) #84 Dark Blue Metallic the data plate on the fire wall should tell you what it was originally. The problem is since you know it was repainted in the past with a different color you have no way of knowing what color they used. Paint shops don't just pick a color from the original palette. A customer can pick pretty much anything from any make or year. I can tell you it possibly could be one of those $49.95 paint jobs from Miracle or Earl Sheibe (sp) because both used a powder blue. I had a 75 Vega with #20 Sky blue

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
Thanks for the pic Titomars I guess we are tag teaming each other today. Lol that's looks close to my truck's current color. I guess I am looking for
Hawwiian blue but I keep seeing slightly different shades of it that I want to know what I'm getting before I shell out the dough. Here's a photo a year ago before I tore it all apart.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
Last one. Some seem darker than others. Thanks for your help.

The only one of the 3 photos you posted that looks like OEM correct for the year is the 2nd one and that is catalina blue met. if I were to go a blue I would go with that. It is a very sharp color. The First photo looks like Hawaiian blue though I do not think the 73/74 models used it. I'd have to check. The 3rd photo looks aftermarket to me. oh and tag your it Here I just added a scan of the 76 Dupont color chart for our squares.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
Is this Catalina blue? I do like this one a lot. The truck was on eBay a day or so ago.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
To me that looks like Hawaiian blue. Catalina blue is metallic.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
Ok thanks. I know that the truck originally had Hawaiian blue. But I wanted to go with a Gm blue that complimented the chrome trim/bumpers I want to install. Thanks for clarifying some of this. I was about to just pay for some samples and test them out.

Re: Chevy blue paint confusion
Yeah that's Hawaiian for sure.
Here's my 77 which is 20/23 code. Its supposed to be 20 on top and through the middle with 23 on the rest. Someone hand job painted the middle and down with a darker blue than 23. |
