hubcap differences

Can someone give me a quick run down on hubcaps. I thought 64-66 were the same style (on the left) but I have 3 of the right and need a 4th.

Re: hubcap differences

One on the left is 64-65, one on the right with the raised center circle is 66.

Best hubcap thread we have that I know of is: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=501034

Re: hubcap differences

I'd put up a WTB in the classifieds....should be pretty easy to source, especially since you have a nice 66 cap to trade now.

Re: hubcap differences

Of the two types shown, the one on the right (with the ridge) is more resistant to damage and is also available as a close reproduction these days. The earlier plain-faced style was phased out after only a couple years production and was replaced by the stronger design. That is, if you ordered a replacement cap for your 64 or 65 at the dealer parts dept., you would have been given the later design after 66.
Owing to the inherent weakness and relative rarity of the early style, it'd going to be easier for you to find a single later style cap to make a complete set. I bet you wouldn't have any trouble at all trading your good early cap for a good or better later one.

Re: hubcap differences

Thanks OEM. I just picked up my 3 early caps from my polisher. and I must say, he did a amazing job straightening them out and getting them ready for paint. all metal no filler. Seeing how I have 2 66 trucks I would need caps for, I would gladly trade these near perfect set of 3 for a ok set of 4 later caps.

Sorry, I thought that you had three of the 66 style (on the right).
Someone will make that trade.

Re: hubcap differences

Do you need for nub style wheels or clip style?
I have 4 Chrome 66 Chevy with clip style for 1/2 ton.
Looking for 4 painted GMC nub style.
