Fuel tank anti squeak rubber help

Due to time, I had someone else strip my chassis. So I'm not sure which way these things came off.
The pic below shows the 2 rubber squeak pads that were between edge of the fuel tank and the bracket that sandwiches between the tank and the frame.
Why are they long and triangular at the one end?
Which way does that face, forward or rearward?

The assembly manual doesn't really show them that well.

that looks like a piece of innertube that someone cut up. The replacement tank kit I got came with some anti squeak felts that look like roofing felt that I just laid across the fuel tank lip and pinched it between the tank and the frame.

I'm not sure if I did it right by not running the bolts through the holes on the tank, but the way I did it is how they were ran when I took the old tank off, and it's been staying put *knocks on wood*.

Mine tank was replace by the PO and the anti squeak pads were reused. They look exactly like the ones you show. This photo somewhat shows how they fit.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the replacement kit has different pads than factory. I have seen a few with the shape and material of mine. I don't think they left the factory with any fasteners except for the straps. At least that is all the Assembly manual shows. I have seen people add bolts through those holes when doing a replacement.

I appreciate the picture. Looks like at least on that passenger side photo it goes towards the front.

Member Seventyone lent me his originals to make mock ups using a Neoprene Sheet, 60A Durometer that I bought on Amazon for 20 bucks. It's .125" thick and 6" wide and 36" length that you can cut to form the same shape as your originals. I have them installed but I can't confirm they actually keeping them from squeaking.

Were they triangular on the one end? Which way did you point that elongated end?

Yep, just like the ones you have there. I'll have to double check and see which way I have them pointed.

I have mine pointed to rear. There wasn't any particular reason why I did it this way so cant say for sure if it's correct. My tank is completely bolted down and the front (where the rest of the edge of the tank is exposed) has about a 1/4' space between the frame rail. Hope that helps

Well I ended up pointing mine rearward also. Only way they really follow the contour of the tank. No idea what purpose it serves after it sticks out from the bracket but looks like they came from the factory that way.

Thanks for the link I might have gotten some of these for the straps had I known but I just cleaned up and reused the originals.
