Re: mouting the hood emblem

every 55-59 chevy truck had one.
You need to open the hood and see how your original holes were plugged.
If they are welded, you need to grind the extra metal off, if they were just bonded over, check to see that some doofus didn't smack each hole with a hammer to get the bondo to stick by making a dent, getting the bondo thicker..
Proceed with caution, you might not like the results. As for mounting it where the welded areas are, try to see if you can see the holes through the ground off place that you clean up. a lot of the time, the metals are different, and there will be a color change in the welded hole.
You can go slightly larger on the holes than the actual studs on the hood ornament, and "center" it by using blue painters tape, and mark the holes on the tape to keep from scratching your paint in case you decide to wait till you paint your truck again.

Re: mouting the hood emblem

You can make a template. Take some heavy construction paper and push it on the back of the emblem piercing the paper with the studs, then trace the emblem, remove the paper and cut the emblem out. Now you have the hole locations and the size shape of the emblem to centre and get straight, cover the painted area of the hood with masking tape first. The you can mark your centre line on that, tape the template in place when it's right and centre punch the hole locations. Leave the template in place what you drill.
