I found a 3/4 gmc at the local scrap yard with a front sway bar. Can I use a sharp chizel to remove the factory rivets on the sway brackets? How hard is this to do? There is only four. I can get it pretty cheap if I pull it, or should I just let him torch it for more money? Also it has some tow hooks on it should I grab those as well? Thanks. let me know soon I am heading there tomorrow.

Are you talking about the brackets that are riveted to the frame?

FYI, they are 11.00 per pair new from GM. Any decent Chevy dealer will stock them. I'd have to be pretty broke to chisel those 4 rivets off for 11.00

If it's a 1 1/4" bar (most 3/4 tons are) get you some of these. They are urethane and available at any parts store for way less than the mail order speed shop type places.

Those tow hooks are a GOLD MINE!!!!!!!!!!! A couple have sold last week for around 200.00 or so Dollars... GET THOSE IF U CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you sell them, can I have a Sellers helper fee???

They dont look like anything special, whats up with them, There not plated or anything. And I believe Ill just buy some new brackets, thanks for the info. Any part number on them? also on the bushings , any numbers or what dealer to get them. THanks.

when i pulled my sway bar off an 86 gmc... the guys at the bone yard were cool enough to break out the torch and melt those rivets out for me .... i guess they saved me 11 bucks

I have chiseled several sets off before. If you have a good chisel and good access to the rivets, it is not to hard. If you have one take a cordless drill and center punch and drill out part of head and then chisel off the rest. I chisel off the top side (not bracket side) and use a punch to knock it lose.

i took a torch with me when i got my bar didnt take long to get em off. also i used the energy suspension greasable bushings on all 4 mounting points they are like 25 for a pair

remember when you chisel wear a good leather glove or hold the chisel with a pair of plyers, speaking from experience of course, I used those energy susp greaseable ones too, there great, man I didn't realize those factory tow hooks were so much money, I'll have to keep an eye out for those.

Ok I got the bar off, I removed all the bolts to the A frame and a guy came out there with a torch and torched the rivets off. Anyways I need new bushings for them. Any good places like autozone carry them? And I got to looking on my truck to add this option and it has the holes in the A frame but nothing in the frame, So I guess I am gonna have to drill these out? Also this truck was a late 70's model GMC not a 72 so If these a factory tow hooks they look different than the earlier models. Thanks for all your help guys, and I seen those parts at gmpartsdirect, but by the time I paid for shippin it would have been same to order them from my local dealer, Luckily I got the brackets with it, all for $20. Can't go wrong there

If you will look at the pretty picture above, you will see urethane bushings that are available at any parts store that carries Moog. The part number is on the box in the picture. Yes, it's the right part for a 3/4 ton swaybar.

You might want to measure the swaybar so you
get the correct size,some of the latter 70's 3/4 ton used bigger size swaybars,I got 1 a few weeks ago at the wrecking yard.

I just checked carparts.com and they have 3 sizes listed for 3/4 ton.
1-1/8 1-1/16 1-3/16

Early Classic Enterprises had the full mounting set (bushings, metal straps, and bolts) for 29.00 ( i just ordered mine today)

also, they are by far the best company i have ever dealt with!!!
