Shipping on a transmission~Question
I know this is the parts section, but I figured this could be the best place for a shipping question. I found a Saginaw 3 speed transmission with overdrive in Pennsylvania, that I'd like to get (I'm in Ga.). The guy says he'll crate it for me if I'll arrange for a carrier. I've never done something like this, but I'd really like the transmission. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions on the shipping process for a transmission, & how much it might cost? ....My apologies for posting in wrong sections. Thanks in advance.

Re: Shipping on a transmission~Question
Hi ,get all the measurements of the crate and how much it weighs also the zip codes of where it needs to be picked up and where it's going ,Then you have 5 choices
Greyhound bus lines freight - it may weigh to much and should be crated well U-Ship.com follow the directions it may take some time to get it but many shippers will pick it up as an add on to there main load to help with fuel costs LTL freight (less than load ) google ltl freight carriers that service your area . Fed ex Ups ---------------------------- |

Re: Shipping on a transmission~Question
For my larger items, I've had good luck with shipnex at worldwide express and have used them for various car parts like wheels, suspension components etc. They subcontract through UPS and FedEx but the rates are usually much less, often half of the big boys.
A lot of folks also use Greyhound services if you are close to a terminal. You could also try www.engineshipping.com, I've never used them but the quotes are better than most I've seen for shipping large heavy items. |
