Dual snorkel air cleaner, who's got em'?

Today, I headed out to the local wrecking yard to pick up an OEM single snorkel air cleaner I knew was out there, to finish my dual snorkel project. Of course is disappeared, but laying down next to a 67 suburban, was what I believe is a 70-72 z28 dual snorkel air cleaner base.

It's in the process of being stripped and painted.

Who else is rockin' a dual snorkel setup?

Not exactly a dual snorkel, but a dual intake. It looks better than the rest of my engine compartment right now.

That's exactly like the air cleaner base I picked up today.

Re: Dual snorkel air cleaner, who's got em'?

I have an LT-1 dual snorkel (like shown) and matching valve covers for my '67. Nice junkyard find! They are reproduced, but if that's an original, they ain't cheap. They add a lot of cool factor and better performance than single inlet, but tests on the Camaros they came on show a healthy increase in power when replaced with an open element type.

That looks like the hot 327 Nova SS air cleaner. I'd love to find one of those for my 327

So I was wondering if anyone had something like this? Wondering about the fit. Any thoughts?

My repop dual snorkle looks identical to this. I got it through the Truck Shop in Orange County, CA. I also got the proper decals. Cost about $240 for black painted version. A bit more for a chromed version. A lot of cheddar to cough up, but it really looks nice.

I have a 1970 Camaro Lt-1 version on my 68, it has resided there for over 30 years, Took it off of a Camaro I scrapped. I did change the top cover to put a taller filter in.

Here's mine from an 80s z28. Have all the ducting for it but it's got cracks all over. I'll find something eventually for the ductwork

Resurrecting an old thread...

The dual snorkel air cleaners have stock look to them yet are appealing because of the symmetry.

Jay Doerfler's 72 C10 with a 1970 Camaro LT1 intake featured on Hot Rod Network is attached below.

I'd like to run a similar setup using a C3 Corvette (78-81) air cleaner assembly, similar to BlackedOut67shorty's 80s Z28 cleaner but connect the thermostatic valves on each snorkel so they work with cold starts.

Has anyone tried or had success running a dual snorkel connected to the exhaust manifold stove and chimney (ductwork)? If so, what stove and chimney parts did you use?

Re: Dual snorkel air cleaner, who's got em'?

I did this on a g-body ElCamino years ago. This application had headers so it required some creativity. Manifolds are as simple as finding/having the factory style brackets @ the manifold & connecting the generic replacement heat-stove flex tubing between the two.

I used local auto parts store exhaust reducer/adapter for the base required to attach to the header tube. I notched out the adapter as needed so it would straddle the 1 5/8 header tube. Once I was happy w/that, I cut slots 180° across from each other. The slots only need to be wide enough to slip a worm-gear clamp through (I used a stainless-steel radiator hose clamp). The clamp went through the slots in the reducer (over the top of the tube) & then wrap around under the header tube. I tightened the adapter into place so it had the best angle to the air cleaner mount. I used standard heat-stove emissions tubing to go from the air cleaner snorkel to the adapter on the header.

This was years ago but I'll look & see if I still have the bracket/adapter for a visual if my descript isn't enough.

Re: Dual snorkel air cleaner, who's got em'?

Thanks for the reply SCOTI. Sounds like it will work without too much difficulty. An exhaust shop may be able to make up a small piece of tubing for a new custom chimney/heat riser. Feel free to share any photos you may have.

Re: Dual snorkel air cleaner, who's got em'?

Don't have one on my 72' GMC. I bought one off Craigslist from an 80' Corvette for my 71' Monte Carlo and made one for my 83' K20 from two air cleaners. Cut snorkel off one and positioned and rivoted to the other. This was the only picture I have of the 83'
