Lower 1971 C10
Hello everyone,
I'm planning on lowering my truck which is currently at stock height about 2in. in the front and 3in. in the back. I would like to have your feedback in getting the coils cut or buying dropped coils. I want to do it the right way since I plan on keeping and improving the truck. Thanks! |

Don't cut coils. They were made the way they are for a reason. Buy a drop kit that has coils and shocks that match. I did a 2/4 drop from Early Classic Enterprise and am very happy with it. There are lots of other options out there as well, but again, don't cut coils.

I used ccp 2" front lowering springs with 2" modular spindles, 5" rear drop springs and rear shock relocation brackets. I'm very happy with it.

Re: Lower 1971 C10
One thing to consider is your "stock height" may be lower than the stock height when new, so if you buy some mild drop springs you might end up with less drop than advertised. I cut a full coil off of my C20 and definitely dropped 2", probably 2.5 to 3 after the spring settled into position. If down the road you want to install the proper lowering springs you aren't really out anything but your time.

Re: Lower 1971 C10
Not to threadjack, but here is my C20 with one coil cut off of the front spring, factory big block springs. Has a 350 Chevy now so obviously it would sit a little higher. Rear leaf spring setup, added 2.25" shackle links from a trailer store to drop the rear about 2" as well, I literally have $8 into the total drop. I believe the tire size is LT225 70R16, old cube van take-offs.
