Re: steering wheel
Are you looking to keep the truck more stock-ish looking? Modern? Traditional?
I myself really prefer Superior flake wheels (or Cragar, or any other old vinyl ones) in 15-16". EDIT: Here's a thread with some examples of old vinyl wheels. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...thread.438873/ |

Re: steering wheel
I'm considering this steering wheel from American Retro.

Re: steering wheel
you can always buy a stock replacement. and easy to find. that way it belongs to the truck if thats what your looking for.

Re: steering wheel
Has anyone needed a steering wheel adapter to make the old wheels fit on a newer tilt column? If so, where is an inexpensive place to get one?

Re: steering wheel
you dont need an adapter. use snap ring pliers to take off the airbag clockspring and the wheel will bolt right on. the splines have been the same since the 40s.
source: my steering column is a tilt model from a 2002 s10 blazer. also, here is a 1947 steering wheel on a 99 column. we hadnt taken the clockspring off yet but it fits fine now

Re: steering wheel
I have a large...um..."lower midsection"....so as much as I love those Impala and large-diameter wheels, they just aren't an option for me personally (even with tilt).
I use a nice simple Grant 3-spoke leather wheel w/ 13" diameter (smallest allowed). Its great for clearances, and the small diameter is no trouble with my steering setup. It also fits the buttons for my line-loc and room for another for nitrous trigger/2step/transbrake/etc

you make a good point, borrow a stock steering wheel and make sure you fit behind it. even guys who arent extremely fabulous can find the stock column and wheel a bit cramped. My column got moved away from the seat a little and the impala wheel gave back some of the depth, so now I can scoot the seat up a little and have lots of room behind the seat. which I need for, I dunno, hauling... jerry cans? haha.

Re: steering wheel
You can use the 72 truck wheel. about the same as Camaro, Buick Skylark and some others. They came in colors and are 15 inches
