3 Speed Question
About ready to put the transmission back in today. Had to pull the tail shaft off because we dropped the darn speedo gear in there - opps! Trying to make sure I am in neutral and that the shifter forks are in the right spot. Both ends (front spline and tail shaft) turn freely and independently. Before I put it back in, should I put a drill bit in the alignment holes on the steering column?

Re: 3 Speed Question
If both the front and tail shaft spin independent of each other then you're in neutral.

Re: 3 Speed Question
If you did not screw the linkage in or out there should not be a need to adjust it but you could do it just to be sure.

Re: 3 Speed Question
If the shifter worked good before it should shift good now. But what the heck, good time for an alignment check anyway. It will not take but a couple extra minutes.
Might be a good time to check the play in the column and replace all of the bushings in the lower unit.
