Newbie here introduction and questions
Evening all. Name is Glen. Live in Sycamore Illinois. Just have been obsessed lately with wanting to build an old truck. Not a show truck but a rusty low 1949 - 1953 Chevy 3100 or 3600
Not really a "car" guy but I got the bug and started researching S10 swap outs and really want to attempt it. I was a mechanic in the Army (Light wheel stuff, mostly field repairs) and I build cabinets and furniture but welding, engines, trans, etc will be new to me. Probably be a few year project but I am excited to research and learn along the way. Couple of questions: Is a Chevy 3100 and 3600 basically the same except a larger wheel base on the 3600? For s 10 swap outs what is the ideal year and model S10? 90's regular cab long bed? 90's extended cab long bed? 90's extended cab short bed? Just curious for those who have done these to know your ideal frame type from what S10. Anyway thanks for any help and i look forward to learning and eventually sharing my progress along the way. Thanks, Glen |

Re: Newbie here introduction and questions
That looks like a short bed. you'll need to shorten your bed on the project truck to make it work on that donor.

Re: Newbie here introduction and questions
1st - Welcome to the site.
2nd - The guys on here are the most knowledgeable anywhere for S10 swaps and modifying the Advance Designs and Task Force. So you came to the right place.\ 3rd - You will need a S10 standard cab and a long bed for the least modifications of Frame and AD truck. I only know this because of these guys. 4th - have a blast doing the work. If I can do it then anyone can do it. I've learned to patiently take things apart and document, clean, weld, and paint while working on my trucks. Pat

Re: Newbie here introduction and questions
Any reason to go S10 swap specifically? Does your AD truck not have a frame? Have you considered instead installing updates suspension components onto the stock frame? Gonna be a lot easier time of it and a nicer looking stance at the end of the day by utilizing the stock frame - just my thoughts. No hard facts when it comes to this stuff.

Re: Newbie here introduction and questions
I notice any S10 frame swap is a bit narrower track width front and can notice so need spacers or positive offset rim to look normal.
