Just how low can you get with a basic c knotch
Im planning on running a basic air ride system....
no seriously. really basic. so basic that if i need to add some air, ill have to run to the gas station or use a little pre-filer compressor. (i dont plan on playing with the ride height much) I was wondering JUST how low can you go with a basic c knotch like the bolt in kits from cpp. i dont want to lay frame, but the 3/5 drop with 2" blocks just arent enough for me. so i was wondering if anyone has bagged their truck without dishing out the time and cash to modify the whole frame. the front will be bagged on the stock a arms. yes i know they arent as flexible as the tubular aftermarkets. pics? |

If you C-Notch the rear - your rear end at the third member may hit the bottom of the bed before the axle tubes bottom out at the c-notch. Try it.
Your front end can go as far as you want until the cross member hits the ground. But as you eluded your upper ball joints may be over-stressed at that point.

I am limited by shocks but still 2" more can be had. The pumpkin already pokes through. This is a 62 frame. So technically this would be frame contact without notch. I see no need for one if you set bump stop to keep rear out of contact.

Re: Just how low can you get with a basic c knotch
I'm at about 6-6" drop static on a weld in notch (not their notch, but similar in size), and I'm well before hitting either the notch or the bed. IMO looks like with the 12bolt I've got, it would probably hit first on one of the bed cross braces.

Re: Just how low can you get with a basic c knotch
well I planned on raising the bed about 6" just because I like the shallow bed better. but maybe ill just have to go ahead with a mild c notch just to be safe

Re: Just how low can you get with a basic c knotch
You could always put on the air ride then see how much notch you want or need.

2" more to gain in rear with shocks limited travel. Bumper before frame!
