Unhappy Tachometer puked

Drove my Longhorn to work today. Ran great, drove nice, but on my way home it died like the key was shut off. Checked everything, plenty of fuel, 12 volts to HEI distributor, and would crank great. Unplugged tach wire from distributor and engine fired up and runs great. I'm hoping its a bad wire and not the tach itself. The way my luck runs my tach probably just took a crap.
