LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Hello guys & thank you in advance for your time
Just finished my ls swap this past weekend & now I just need to get my exhaust installed so I can get her back on the road. My truck is a 1969 C10 SWB with a lq9 Vortec MAX/4l65e combo with 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds. I'm thinking of having the exhaust exit right in front of the rear tires. So I'm looking for advice and pictures of your trucks exhaust set up. 2.5 or 3" pipes? X-pipes or H- pipes ? Pictures and advice would be greatly appreciated. Also this will be a daily driver. Again thank you for looking and thank you for your time. Miguel |

My thread a few inches down
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=680952 Not exactly the same, but you can set yours up in a similar manner. A box o' bends from Columbia Mandrel was 85% of all I needed.

I use 2 1/2 for everything and I've never used a "X" or "H" pipe, especially for a driver. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money that the "X" or "H" would cost and run the pipes all the way back, either straight out the back or behind the rear tires. Just My 2¢ worth..... LockDoc

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
I dont think you will find too many fans of flowmasters I think they tend to drone plus other issues. I like the MF they are straight thru and IMO sounds great.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
I own a 1969 Olds Cutlass that I purchased back in 1996 with Flowmasters already on it they look & sound the same as the day I purchased the car.
A 455 Old's rocket with 3" exhaust & Super 40's Fliwmaster's sounds better than the New York symphony IMO But I do respect your opinion thank you |

Well not the best pictures but I do have some. Long tube headers with dual pipes and Magnaflows mufflers. Sponsors of the HRPT.

Video of the new pipes.
I have to agree with LockDoc if you want to talk on the phone are to the passenger in the truck going down the road run the extra few feet of pipes and get the noise out the back of the truck.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Naw, I'm an a$$hole in real life, I just like trucks and they help me be less murder-y with my human interactions. I appreciate the kind words however.
As for the Dyna's; I'd say that they are actually quieter than my worn out magnapacks. They have a lower, less droney sound. In general driving conditions, I'd say they "tame" the noise that my old setup had. Under heavy accell, they have more of a lions growl than a wolfs bark.. .does that make any sense? I have some good video clips of my new setup, but I can't release them yet because part 4 of my most recent series hasn't dropped yet. If you like, I'll rip some audio from them if you want to hear how they sound on my truck and not wait another week or two.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Good thread and opinions by all. I personally like Flowmasters for first Gen small blocks and Magnaflows for the LS stuff. Just my personal preference, but I've tried both and that's where I landed. As far as the length of the tailpipes, they are kinda like my socks, the older I get, the longer they get................. As far as the H pipe, going without it will give you more of a "Hotrod" sound. If you are on the fence about it, I would recommend going without it and if you don't like the sound OR feel you need more HP, have one installed as it's not that difficult to add one in. Just my .02. OBTW Fast&Low, you need to clean out your PM box, .

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
I have a Frankenstein for an exhaust system. Was a rush job to get my truck going. I have truck manifolds to 2 1/4" pipe into 3" pipe into flowmaster 44 and out the back by the tailgate and I friggin hate it!! It is way too loud inside and the drone is awful in my cab, so bad that you cannot have a conversation in the truck at certain rpms while driving on the freeway. I am going to have mine redone at some point with Camaro manifolds, 2 1/2 pipe, H pipe, and Magnaflow or dyno. just my experience.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Here's a photo for those who haven't seen the available Hooker 73-87 LS swap exhaust system yet. It all tucks above the bottom of the frame and bolts right in when the Hooker engine brackets and transmission crossmember are used. I actually modified one of these systems and installed it with the Hooker crossmember on my 79' C20 long bed with great results, so it can be used in non-LS swap applications as well.[IMG][/IMG]

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Sorry guy's for the late update.
Well I already had the 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds so I went with 2 1/2 inch pipe no X pipe or H pipe Super 44's with chrome exhaust tips coming out right in front of the rear tires on both sides. Yes it's loud & yes I love It Thank you all for your time and opinions 1969 C10 SWB fleet side LQ9 Vortec MAX out of a 05 Chevy Silverado SS 4l65e-R by Dr Steve |
