250 I6 Stock Manifold help
Looking for a little help.
I recently bought my '72 C-10 with a 250 I6. The throttle linkage is attached to the current intake with some 'hardware store bracing'. I have been told I need an Intake Manifold that has a mounting hole that would be 'cast in' to the stock cast iron manifold; then I could attach the throttle linkage to this bolt hole? If you were looking at the manifold (installed) from the top carburetor view, the bolt/mounting hole would be on the side of the intake closer to the firewall. I have been searching for several weeks, but have only found one that is selling for $200 (seems a bit high). Does anyone have any advice on how/where to find one at a more reasonable price? Also, looking to find the 'intake attachment' to upgrade to a 2-barrel carb (from my current 1-barrel. (side note - I am possibly going to switch out my motor from a 250 I6 to a 292 I6, but as far as I know, I am going to need these exact same parts for my upcoming motor project). I see those pop up in the for sale section from time to time. There was one just recently. Langdon Stovebolt has the NOS intake and exhaust manifolds for sale at $175. Call mr Tom if you need one quick. He also has the 2 barrel carbs and linkage. Google Langdon Stovebolt and check out his site.

CST10 - Thanks for all the info. I will check out Langdon's website, and I will scroll through the 'For Sale' section again. Not that I need an NOS, but if I'm going to pay that much, I'd rather have NOS than something that has been used & abused, not that there's anything wrong with that!

The manifold. The surface to the head is clean. I will separate it from the exhaust. $50.

I would like to use an inline 6 in my '67 (everyone has v-8's) but was told they get poor gas mileage and cost more to rebuild. Any thoughts?

I have a line on an inline with a casting number of 3850817. My info calls it a 230 or 250. Is there any way to tell the difference from outside the engine?
Would a turbo 350 or 400 be a good match for this engine? I'm not after a world beater here, just something to go down the road and keep up with the traffic. |

The 230 and 250 look alike outside. The only clue might be from the "dress numbers" the digits stamped in the block on the machined pad aft of the distributor hole. The last 2 or 3 letters will tell.
Yes, either of those automatics will bolt right up to the L6 block, and work fine. The TH400 is heavier duty and will stand up to a BBC or towing. I had a TH350 behind a 454 in a 4x4 K/10 '67 Suburban, and it worked OK.
