gauge bezel, heater & fuse block ???'s

Ok this is a 3 part question.

First the gauge bezel in my Jimmy looks like crap. It has some kind of stains and is all cracked up. So i got another one in perfect, uncut condition.... Except the aluminum looking stuff is fading off. Is there some special paint to use on plastic, or can i use my gloss black engine paint?

Second, no matter what setting you put the heater on it blows out of the floor and partially out of the vents. It never blows out the defrost. Is this cable or vacuum controlled? What controls it to blow through different vents?

Third, does anybody have a pic or diagram of the fuse block for a 83 K5 Jimmy? The labels are wore off and i can't tell what is what.

#1 I pulled off my aluminum thing and it came off perfectly clean just leaving a black "leather" look. Might try it.

#2 Depends if it is heat only or A/C. A/C defrost control is vacuum powered. If it is A/C your mix control door vacuum canister is broken or the plastic piece that connects it is broken like mine was.

#3 Errrr.... which labels do you need?

The Jimmy came with ac, but it doesn't work now. And where is this vaccum canister at?

On the fuse block i can't tell what the fuses go to. The writing is wore off it.

It is behind the whole box. You'll probably have to take the whole thing out to get to it. Unless you have small hands and a fiberoptic camera?

Before you tear the whole dash apart, check the vacuum switch on the back of the A/C control head. There should be 9 ports (I think) that have a tendency to go out.

You probably have either 2 canister out or that switch jonboy said is out. Start to troubleshoot.

I 'm not sure if your having bezel problems still or not, but I came across this thread and thought I would let you know. If you intend to paint it I would use something for plastic, vinyl, fabric. It will stick better.

They do sell replacement allum. incerts for @60. Not too bad when a new bezel is @200,but still too much for me. I bought this at a art supply shop for about $5 a sheet. Print shops should have it also. I am not sure what it's called, but it peels off like a sticker. If you decide to do something like this I can give some ideas that may prevent you from getting a second sheet like I had to do.

It looks pretty good to me, or at least it looks better than it did, and will work until I can buy a new one. This belzel is a non ac and has been cut and need to go. Same thing on console. Plate was rusted and pitted. Painted with plastic paint. Hope this helps!!

Maybe you can trim straighter than me, but then again pic is blown up

Does the selector lever feel like it makes good contact when you go from ac to max to bi-leavel and so on ?

I don't think the vacuum switch is getting any vacuum. Where does the switch get the vacuum from?

And the aluminum looking stuff was covering the whole bezel, but i already peeled it off.

It comes from out the firewall to a vaccum canister. It can be different b/c cruise control affected where these vaccum lines went to. You'll have to just follow it through the firewall. They usually come out on the drivers side just above the motor.
