Reo retro tow truck
I think this truck best fits here.
I love the art deco style of the 40's REO trucks. I had my eye on this truck in a salvage yard for several years. I finally decided to by it. Next I had to decide what to do with it. After pulling it from the spot it was in I found all the axles were all locked up. I got the motor running and was given a great deal on some axles and Transfercase from a GMC CCKW. I always liked the old tow trucks, so I decided to make this a 4x4 version of d19xa as a tow truck. I have a lot of work to do on it but you guys can see where I'm going with it. I am keeping the original motor and transmission. Need to finish the bed, move the front axle back 2 inches and on and on. Anyway what do you think? |

Re: Reo retro tow truck
I really like COE's. Diamond T trucks have a classy look about them. I have 92 motor home I considered as a donor for a COE candidate. Has disk brakes front and rear and fresh 454. I bought the REO before I found a cool COE. If only I had a bunch of money and time.

Re: Reo retro tow truck
Nice project. A mile from my place is the remains of an old REO bus in the trees.

Re: Reo retro tow truck
That's funny. There's a round front Reo bus in the woods behind my buddy's place in PA.
I'm diggin' this project. A big boy pickup with 4wd. I love all the truck company pickups... the Mack Jrs, Reos, Diamond-Ts, etc. My friend has a '58 Reo tandem rear with a van body. We go to the antique truck shows in it. He's a sign painter, so it is totally painted up.

Re: Reo retro tow truck
Had a chance to get the REO outside with the other trucks for a picture. Not too much done. So many things and little time.

Re: Reo retro tow truck
It looks like it is in very nice condition with almost no rust. I've always liked that cab style. Post pics as you go.

Re: Reo retro tow truck
Sorry for the bring up an old post, but got any specs on it?
What axles you running? Transfer case? You keep the stock motor and trans and do a divorced case or swap something else in. The truck is sitting up pretty good. What springs are on it to clear what looks to be ~37" tires? I got two 1 ton trucks in the shop getting converted to 4x4 and diesel swaps. A 59 Chevy Viking and 49 REO Speedwagon 13 |
