I'm not sure I'd be real concerned about the DOT business, especially if it was something I wasn't driving every day and not carrying any weight. I'm reading that as more of a "we told you so, so you can't sue us" statement than anything else. At 2600 lbs each, those wheels have plenty of weight capacity for an empty 1/2 ton truck. $200 shipped for 4 brand new powder coated wheels is going to be hard to pass up.

I read the question you linked to and it said they were DOT approved for trailer use, not automobile. However the response was not directly from the manufacturer but someone saying that's what they were told by them.

I'm curious about the DOT thing... seems like trailer wheels need to hold not only the weight of the trailer, but then also the weight of the vehicle on the trailer.

Also, I've seen trailers turn in tight circles, and the tires deflect a LOT, which tells me the wheels are getting side loads that our vehicle wheels don't see.

I don't think I'd have a problem about running those on a truck.

Now, the question is: Will they clear disc brakes?

Did you but the 15s or 16s? I did not see which ones were being discussed in that thread.

I bought 15's for a C10.. good price for what they are but wouldn't buy again. Hub centric is the best way to fit a wheel and these are not hub centric for our 2WD C10's. Hub centric will prevent wheel vibrations and added stress to wheel studs.

Also too as I mentioned in my write up in the suspension section; 64-66 center caps were impossible to put on without having to damage them and then I'm sure they still would not seat correctly.

Is the hub (pilot) hole the correct dimension to clear the spindles, and are the hub centric or lug centric? Those would be my main concerns.

Trailer stuff was popular with the VW bug crowd since so many of the parts were fashioned off of old vw designs anyway and the weight could never be an issue in a sub 2300lb car.

Just remember that trailer wheels and tires aren't rated to handle speed. I would be less enthusiastic about running them on anything that saw 80+ much, or anything that saw high performance use.

The hub hole clears the spindles (it's actually oversized).. check out the write up I did in the link I provided.. the wheels are neither hub centric nor lug centric. The hub hole on these wheels is larger than the factory size of our trucks and the lug holes are for 1/2" studs vs. Our 7/16" studs, so different lug nuts are needed to hold in place properly.

I would say to make them center like they should you will need to go to 1/2" studs to get the taper of the lug to pull up on the wheel like it should. Not an issue for the front if you have switched to later disc brakes. The back would need to be drilled for the bigger studs. Either way you do it need to make 100% sure the lug nuts are not pulling up on the drum face.

I bought a set of 16x6 and they are heavy duty rims. yes they are set up for 1/2" wheel studs. center hole fits perfect on my 61k10. I have some heavy-duty 7/16 lug nuts that fit perfect in the lug holes. (the taper for 7/16 and 1/2 are the same) problem is the stock wheel studs are to short. you are gonna have to replace the studs one way or the other. I have the lug nuts so i might stay with 7/16 studs. no tires yet---------

the lugs came from summit and the do have 1/2" ones. as PG said about bottoming on the drums--the little stock ones look like they do. the big ones i don't think so. we will see.

I bought 16's but you were asking about about 15" the center hole is the same on 15 and 16" 3.65 both 1/2" studs. price is great compared to some 50 yr old rusty stuff.

I wasn't familiar with the term 'Hubcentric', so I looked it up.
Are the 73-87 4x4 6-Lug wheels Hubcentric?

I was always of the understanding that almost all OEM wheels are hub centric, and after market wheels are lug centric as they are designed to fit more than one make/model.

Edit: I guess I should preface my statement with the fact that I quit paying attention to most anything newer than '87 or so, when the OEMs went to integrated wheel bearings, IFS 4 wheel drives, etc.
