black door handles
Is there a company out there that makes black door handles, or do you just take them apart and get them powdercoated?

If you try to take them apart the pot metal will probably break. If it doesn't break when you take it apart it will break when you try to put it back together. I would just sandblast them and paint them. LockDoc

Re: black door handles
tha'ts what I was thinking too. Also, the powdercoat is so thick, I was worried about the thumb/push button not working.

Re: black door handles
No need to take them apart disassemble them or sandblast them if you powder coat them yourself. I haven't done that on my truck but I did it on this little riceburner I've been playing with. It started out as an ugly white four cylinder but then it grew up! Door handles and locks work just fine.

The only thing it might affect on the truck handle is the spring inside the push button. I would try a junker first and see what it does.... LockDoc

Re: black door handles
We did a set for the kids truck but they turned out like crap and we didn't use anyway.
Ours had very small pits starting so we sanded them smooth.but every spot where a pit was bubbled when pc'd and looked terrible. They did work fine though afterwards. My suggestion is either do perfect originals or new ones.

Re: black door handles
If you do your own powder coating check out the black chrome powder from prismatic powders.

Re: black door handles
I'm in. Want to hear if new handles will take the heat! I tried a set of license plate brackets and they drooped bad. I would take apart first the inside parts.
don't need to be 'coated. If possible. Think of the Candies you could put over the chrome!!!

Re: black door handles
I wish I had a better picture, but I had my outside and inside handles powder coated on my '66 C10. They work fine.

Re: black door handles
I like you idea in theory as a theme....
I was thinking about doing a "black-chrome". Theres a semi-rare bicycle called Austro-Diamler. The parent company was a partnership between Puch and Steyer (sp?) of germany. Steyer made a bunch of military stuff...long story short they black chromed the reynolds 531 tubing of they day and it looks really slick (to me anyways) its almost like a combination of blueing on guns and color change paint but looks mostly black-chrome. If only I could figure out how Steyer did it... That being said all of the chrome on the truck would have to undergo this process and theres probably a reason I have never seen this process on anything other than that specific bicycle from the late 70's to mid 80's... cheers spartan
