Doesn't Need to be Perfect

When I got my truck 10 or so years ago from my mom after my dad passing, I put it in the garage to fix the rust areas, paint and make it like new. It has been torn apart waiting for either the time or money to finish. Well a couple of months ago I moved and had to put it back together (without new paint or completely primed) to move to the new house as well as haul some stuff.

Now as I use it at least once a week, I am amazed at all the positive comments I get on my truck. Never would have thought so many people would like it as it is in various stages of primer, blue paint and even bare metal.

It motivates me to keep working on it. I've done more in the last few months than in the last 10 years.

It is a very nice truck and I suspect that you will have many years of service and enjoyment. Just work on it little by little as the funds become available and you have the time

You are using it how God and GM intended. I am "getting there" with my truck too and it won't be perfect either....

Good looking truck. I'm in the same boat as I'm losing storage for my parts. I may need to run with a yellow front clip, red cab and green bed, LOL!

These trucks get a lot of attention, for sure... whether its people who have owned one (or a few) in the past, people who currently own or are restoring one, or people who are looking for their 67-72 dream truck. I've even had people come up and talk to me about my truck just because their dad/grandpa had one just like it way-back-when.

The guy I bought my truck from said to me, "These trucks are great. They are subtle enough that they won't draw everyones attention, but anyone who knows what this truck is will come up and talk to you about it. If you're shy, don't buy this truck!"

Good for you. Keep going. Don't park it again. Too many people do that and never get it on the road again.

^^^exactly. I've seen so many cases where a frame off turns into parts that collect dust in boxes for a decade. Not saying that it's always the case but most people usually don't have the time or cash to finish a frame off fast enough before life or funds to get in their way.

O-yeah nice looking truck , your truck would definitely get me over to start talking, I do it all the time , can't help it like a kid in a candy store. Whether you get it to the point you like sooner or later just keep it good running condition , these trucks always look good at any stage . Good like with your truck and your new location.

glad your enjoying your truck again. I always think about how nice it would be to have a shiny truck and have all the fun goodies i see on others trucks, but i think about the time it takes to get there, and im happy with she is. I drive my truck to work 14 miles every day and love it. I love the wheels, what and where did you get them?

Nice truck! I'm in the same boat. I bought my truck recently and although it needs a lot of resto work, I'm just trying to take it slow and just enjoy driving it for now.

I've read many frame-off resto project threads on this forum, and even though I've been blown away and have learned alot from those guys, I also see the 2-4 years of work start to finish without them being able to drive it. Something I'm not ready or even willing to do right now, so I'm just doing a little repair work here and there.

Nice truck neighbor. I drive my 68 daily as well, and twice a week to big league dreams over by you. What size tires are you running? I need new ones soon and would like something beefy like you have on your truck.

They are 265-75-16. Big league of dreams is almost walking distance from my home. Maybe we will run into each other one of these days

Are your rims chrome plated or are they painted silver? Looks great!

I got the rim and tire package from Americas Tire. Went with a 16" wheel and 265 75 16 tires. The centers are painted and the rim is polished.

Thank you all for the compliments on the wheels. I looked for a long time to get something that looked correct on my truck. I really didn't want to keep the 16.5 rims for a number of reasons.

Yes I'm enjoying actually using my truck vs seeing it on a daily basis torn apart in my garage.

Terry yours is typical story of regular everyday people trying to live life and do all the things they WANT to do in life at the same time we do the things we HAVE to do in life.

Most of us cant be dropping $50K into these hobby builds in a month or two or end up on Overhaulin' or some other tv show to have some show car built 'for us'... so we plug along taking baby steps doing what we do and getting things done as time and extra money permits.

But its best not to worry about 'perfection' so much as it is to just enjoy what you have and especially considering the history you have with your truck being your dads an all, that really makes it special.... Enjoy it! and work on it when you can and it will get done the way you want it at some point.... perfectly!

My truck had a decent driver paint job on it for years. Got quite a few compliments, but after 10 years of 24-7 outdoor abuse from South Carolinas sun, wind, and rain, she's looking a little wore out, so I turned it into a logo'ed up shop truck... I've gotten more comments on it in the past couple months that the past 5 years.

Nice wheels too! It's hard to find wheels that look good on the 67-72 8 luggers.
