Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
You would need the VIN to be absolutely sure. Definitely not a 60 hood. And make sure VIN matches the title if you are getting one.
$450 is probably ok if it has a running engine and a title. (If titles are an issue in FL). Are you wanting it for parts or a project? |

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
from what I see I would call it a 60, 60 grille, 60 fender emblems. kind of looks like silver paint on the dash, 62 would be fawn...

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
The Rocknrod is a member who put out a list not to long ago with every vendor you could think of for each area of the truck. It would be a good source as well. If I can figure out how to send the link I will. Both trucks look to have some issues, but I believe you can make a good truck from the two. Pick the one has the best cab and least amount of cab fab and body work. Best of luck and keep us updated.

this isnt my first rodeo at making a sleeping hot-rod... heres my 78 datsun truck that would make some noise, .. i miss that truck... messing with the choke.. on my '' lunch break'' it backfired in the carb when i shut it off. and burnt to the ground, but this 60' or 63'' will be my new hot-rod,

it wasnt a pretty truck to look at.. but if you look close behind the back widow where the bed meets the cab you'll see the nitrous bottle. the next step. was to strip the decals and put a real paint job on her, but she burnt due to a faulty choke..

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
HI the 60 has a 62 hood it also has torsion bar front end and X frame ....THE 63 has coil spring front end and a ladder type frame ..the 60 frame is wider than the 63,,, cab mounts and bed bolts on the 60 are wider also ..... for most people the 63 frame is the more desirable one to use

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
well im going tomorrow to once again look at the 60' and vin it... last weekend when i went we couldnt get into the hood, by fingers alone. tomorrow im taking some wd-40.. a crowbar and a hammer.. not to beat anything.. just to get more leverage,
im gonna take some gas. and starting fluid. im gonna try to start this motor if we get in the hood, not really to run it. just to see if it will run for a minute, man i really hope we can get the hood to open. i m curious to see if its the 235... so at least ill know what im gonna be working with. well tomorrow ill let you know how it went,

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
vin'd it.. it's definatlly a 60' and the motors not locked down and it had the original air breather on it,,,
call me stupid but im new to these old trucks.. that thing didnt have a air filter in it... but about 2 inches of oil. and i see stamped in the breather '' oil level'' i stuck a battery in it. but i guess the wire had so much corrosion it didnt make contact. i had no power.... but that can wait till i get it in the yard for further observation, heres some pics of it.. from my research i think this is knick-named a '' stove-top '' am i right ?? ..farm fresh [ thats where it's sitting at a farm ] ..

Chicken, has this truck been sitting a good while? I would take the valve cover off and give it a look and remove the belt and spin it by hand if you can before trying to crank it. Once you know it will turn and is not dirty and rusty make sure your fluids look ok then give it a go. You will probably need a battery or jump box.

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
0c144a shows originally a 1960 short wheelbase 1/2 ton pickup built at the Atlanta plant.
that is an "oil bath " air cleaner, the oil filters the dirt out of the air. that will probably be a 235 which are referred to as a "stove bolt" your 60 grille will bolt to the 63 grille support in the upper corners, you will have to drill new holes for the other bolts on each side you will need to keep the grille supports and bumpers together with what ever frame you use. the bumpers have a different bolt pattern between 60 and 63, and the 63 grille support has a notch to clear the taller frame rail. if you can, save both trucks together until you are done building the one that you want, there are a lot of small differences between 60 and 63, and you don't want to lose pieces that you might need depending on which configuration you decide to build.

Re: i think this is a 1960.. help identify the year for me
THATS an oil bath air filter it has steel mesh that the oil sucks up into when running and that catches the dirt and when you shut the truck off the oil and dirt run down to the pan and when you start again the dirt stays in the bottom and repeats the process again best air cleaner ever made ....early chevys where call stove bolt trucks here is a quote from wiki "1st Generation (1929 Stovebolt Era)" and a link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stovebolt check it out
