U-Bolt Mod - Lower Control Arm

Has anyone else complete the lower control arm 9/16" U-Bolt modification?
I seem to have no room to install the nuts properly. This thread in the FAQ section says to use a air hammer on the crossmember to make room. Is this what most people had to do? Cause I'm "thinking" about using a carbide grindning bit to make more room in the hole on the outside side of the crossmember. Thoughts, experiences?

Re: U-Bolt Mod - Lower Control Arm

I was able to get the ones towards the cab side in but I couldn't get the ones towards the front in. I would like to know a good way to dimple the cross member as well. I have the other 2 sitting in the garage, at least one beefier one on each LCA is better that 2 skimpy ones

Also, when I did this I had trouble fitting the u bolts through the holes I drilled. I had to use a jack to bend the u bolts a little to get them through.

I did the upgrade on my 63.. I'll try and get pics this weekend. I had no clearance issues with the nuts and the crossmember but I was careful when opening the holes that I kept them centered between the crossmember wall and lip.

Ditto. No clearance issues, no grinding, no air-hammering here.

Did you use a socket to tighten them down? Or a wrench, I can make a wrench tighten them down but wanted to torque them.

A socket and a 1/2" drive torque wrench.

Must be a 64 thing. Even the panhard bar mount is better on a 65.
That FAQ article stated his was a 64 also.
