Re: gas tank strap pads? where sells them

I went down to the local semi tire repair place and they gave me a blown intertube. I cut it up and used some 3m adhesive. Worked good enough

I did the same as chrismoore701. A blown tire tube worked well, and 3m super 77 held mine in place while u put the straps on.

I had some tar paper left over when my house was roofed . I doubled it with some spray adhesive . Worked out pretty good .

Yup, (mountain) bike tubes work good too, I've slid it over them,
installed, cut out the strip left over for the other side

30lb asphalt impregnated roofing felt is pretty much the same material as the original GM squeak strips.

I made some from some material from Home Despot/Lowe's. Here is a link to what they look like. Post #71

Re: gas tank strap pads? where sells them

Thanks guys I'll check into those options.

question, did our originals come with one side sticky though? mine I don't think did but could have I guess but seems just STUCK due to age and weight of the tank.

just curious if I do decide to order from one of the truck sites.

Re: gas tank strap pads? where sells them

If the ones you have are use able. What I did was lay them out and give them a thin spray of undercoating. Wait a few minutes and flip over and do the other side. once dry enough to handle install. It worked really well it sticks to the tank and seals out the moister and look factory. Using a tube will work but it looks off and the moister gets in between and will rust far quicker.

Re: gas tank strap pads? where sells them

DO NOT buy LMC! It is literally roofing tar paper that they over charge for! It even has the lines for roofing! On top of them overcharging it is very lightweight tar paper! I threw mine away once they arrived from LMC

I also went the home depo route with a recycled rubber matt. Cut to fit the straps and for a Blazer tank, the front and rear edge. It was just under $10 and I can do 12 more installs...
